Lowes RO Filter, worth it?

Whirlpool Reverse Osmosis Under Sink Water Filtration System.....

My wife is not down for letting me spend 200 dollars on an RO/DI system, but The one I just listed is 149$ at lowes and she can use it for drinking water (which convinced her to let me get it). I know preferrably id want RO/DI water but i figure RO is better then nothing. My question is does anyone know if this filter kit is worth a dam, or if its a waste of money.

People on the Lowes website are saying that the filters need to be replaced about every 6 months and the filters are about 100$ for the set. Is this normal for RO systems? Thanx for the Help.

i believe you can get a ro/di for 150 or so bucks...and it can be used for drinking water as well. some sites sell the lil hooked faucet that u can add to your counter top and pressurized holding tanks.....you just split it off before it goes to the di filter........good luck and u will love a rodi filter ..saves time

Looked at those systems, they look pretty good. I might stick with the RO with drinking water kit for now and pass on the DI stage until i can sneak that one under the wife-dar. Now its just a matter of shipping costs, hope it comes up as cheap cause im going to buy it right now, lol.

Which one did you get? When I first started I was about to buy that unit at Lowes, thank God I didn't have the money for it. After doing some research those units are pretty much worthless for what our tanks need. The replacement filters are a lot more expensive too. I ended up getting one from bulk reef supply and I couldn't be happier. When I make water for my fish I also make some for me to drink too.

i have this on my system, directly feed it to my 15gal reservoir with a float valve. i was on vacation for 1month w/ no one look at my tank for even 1 hr while i was gone, i came back to salinity of .026, same as the day i left it.

When I bought my tank used it came with a Whirlpool RO unit. Instead I purchased a BRS system. The build quality is night & day. Aside from which you'd still need to purchase a DI unit for the Whirlpool system.

I have a typical house, new reef tank in living room. 28g HQI nano, I buy water every week, lol. Would I benefit from buying an RO/DI unit, and one more stupid question, I am sure. Where do I hook this to?? In the kitchen, bathroom, or basement? The more I read on reef central, the more I scratch my head...

I'm pretty sure you can hook it up wherever you want. I have mine outside in my garage and just hook up the garden hose when I need to make water and let the wastewater flow down the driveway.
