If it looks like the pics Todd has then it is probably from when you bought it and when the lfs personel was taking it out of the tank and ripped the foot.
I actually just got a lta from my neighbor (my second one). She gave it to me because it was stinging her toadstools and everything around it. It was in a large rock (~30-40lbs) and I tried to get it out but it was set in a hole in the rock and I couldn't get it out without hurting it. So I told her to point a powerhead at it to try and get it to move and then tell me and I would come get it.
Needless to say, the next day I came home from the commissary and she had the lta in a bucket for me. Apparently she was fed up with it stinging her corals so she pulled the rock out and broke it with a hammer and pulled the lta out. When I saw the anemone the foot was ripped open. Pretty much a hole going straight through the anemone (worse then the second picture from Todd). I placed it in my tank to give it a chance and watched it very closely.
Within two days it was able to partially attach to the glass and hold itself in a moderate flow area that I placed it in. It's been about a week to 10 days since I've had it and it's pretty much completely healed and starting to inflate itself, though it is sitting in the back of the tank....
So it can be done, just sometimes hard and since you do not have that much experience in the hobby, I'm gonna have to agree with you and Todd to take it back for a refund. I also would not buy another anemone from that store.
Well there's my lta story...
