Lubbock's Wrasse

Just picked up a Lubbocks wrasse today and it sure is pretty. About 2 hours after acclimation it ate mysis and started swimming around. Isn't too shy, I was wondering if I could add one more wrasse to my tank, I would like a scotts or carpenters, The LFS told me two wrasse in a 65 would be bad, what do ya think?

I'll post some pics when he stops moving

BTW anyone ever seen a female lubbocks? or where I could get one if I cannot get another male wrasse?

When I had to tear my tank apart to get out a Yellow tang, I tired to add an esquiste wrasse. That did not fly with my Lubbocks! chased it all over the tank even after I redid all the rock work! Fi you check Live Aquaria, they list the lubbocks as semi aggressive.

Here is a shot from Bronco7777's fairy wrasse tank:

As you can see it is possible to keep multiple wrasse's. As long as it is done correctly. Don't keep similar colored species. Add males last. Keep only one Super male per tank.

However with your smaller tank the Lubbocks is probably the best choice and I wouldn't add a larger fairy like a Scotts.

A better choice would be the Solerinsis fairy. I have one in my 58 with a lubocks, and no aggression.

Mind if I pop in and ask what the differences are between the female & male Lubbock?

yeah, what does a female look like anyhow?

the females will have 2 lines on its body not connecting almost paralell...usually darker dull colors...thats what Big Als told me atleast!

Thats not really true, or.. it is with some regional color variances, and males can sometimes carry female colors.

You want a female? Find the smallest one you can. They all start out female.

are they similar to clownfish in that if left alone they will become a Male (clownfish become female, of course) or do they need a influence to become the male. so if I found a small one how would I tell if it was female?

Thanks for the qualification :)

Actually the two lines is a regonal variation. Doens't have anything to do with who is male and who is female. Just means they are from the Sangihe regon. If I were a betting man i would say that when the next book of Fairies comes out they will no longer be one species.

Kind of, not really. Its more of, if you put a bunch together, the most dominant will become male. If you just ahve 1, it may eventually become male, but no guarantees.

That being said, its not like clowns where its guaranteed to happen, there seems ot be some other cue that we're not sure of, so it doesnt happen all the time.

He went carpet surfing today, I left the tank un-covered for about an hour, forget to put the cover back on after feeding, when I remembered I rushed down and saw him dried up on the floor. I'm bummed I never even got a picture, he was an awesome color and a great size.
I know I know cover those tanks, I did just forget to for about an hour.
