Hi Everyone,

I am going to purchase Lugols Iodine Solution 12%, I know you can buy the Kent Marine version but I cannot buy this easily in the UK SO i have opted for a non reef specific brand https://apcpure.com/product/Lugols_Iodine_12_Solution

I think the non reef specific brand I am going to buy isn't going to have the dosage instructions for the solution required after fragging my corals. with the link provided can some give me the instruction of the ratio i need to produce the required dip to enable healing after fragging.

Thanks Ian

Ian, how many times and places are you going to ask about this? I've given you the reasons why you should iodine dip them and yeah it's a crap shoot if you don't as to it getting brown jelly or not. BJ is the main bacterial infection that Euphyllia get. Even a fish nipping on them can give them BJ disease. Same goes for Duncan's.

I think you have this posted in at least 5 threads or so. Might want to have a mod combine them for you. I am actually trying to help you but if you don't want to take my advice then don't ask for it.

Dave,

I asked you for your opinion regarding iodine dipping which you answered. I also asked you regarding the required ratio of iodine to water because the brand i am buying is not a reef specific brand so is very unlikely to have instruction for a coral dip like the Kent brand does, which you could not give me the answer for hence the reason I have posted this question to see if anyone has purchased another brand and could give me an idea of the qty's to use.

You also advised if I did not dip my corals they could get a bacterial infection, but I did not ask what symptoms they would show regarding an infection hence my other thread.

I appreciate your help but do not appreciate the way you have addressed the situation on my thread.

I appreciate everyone’s help and I’m pretty new to the saltwater world.

Tbh I would like know if it's safe to dose in the tank/direct replacement for Kent's lugols, as it can get expensive.
Basically it's used as slide dye, I am not sure however if there is difference between the two. Would love if some of the chemistry gurus would be able to provide some info on that.

Yes, one can purchase 10% povidone iodine at drugstores and supermarkets to use for dips and save money. I have done this a number of times. Completely safe. I found out about it when I joined my reef club many years ago. We passed out small containers of 10% p.i. several times, so this has been fine for years amongst a number of reefers.

That said, one can roast the flesh off a coral's skeleton with an iodine dip if one leaves the coral in way too long. Always set a timer. Don't leave them in overnight. Trust me on this. :)

Dosages my club has been using:
Acros, LPS, Zoanthids, Softies - 3 ml/l for 25 minutes
Montis - 2 ml/l 10-15 min.
