I just installed an LA3 full sized reflector over my 45 breeder, 36"x18"x16" and its great! Pretty much showers the whole tank end to end with no bleed out, all you see is a box of light.

So even with it being 18" from front to back the LA3 still does not throw light beyond the tank as ReeferMonkey had noted ? How high off of the water is it ? and do you have the LA3 enclosed in any sort of a canopy ?

Thats right, but, youd have to see the settup. The refletcor is supported by a length of 1-1/2" closet rod spanning the width of the tank which in turn is supported by 1"x4"x2' vertical on each end that is screwed into 1"x4" that runs the perimeter of the tank kinda acting as a light "shield" and a support system. I wish I could get a pic up... The reflectors about 10" off the water, 250w xm 10k, Coralvue electronic ballast, 185 watts of good old vho actinics.

If your talking about the la3. I think the reason why everyone likes this reflector is because of his studies.
