I know this may seem disturbing to this forum but heres a pix of what some locals here catch for lunch

In many Polynesian and Micronesian cultures, L. maculata are considered a feast item. For example, in Tonga to gain an audience with the King it was common to bring a crate of L. maculata.

The red-orage color of the female is typical. You are looking at the ovaries full of eggs. Such females are prized because when grilled they fry in the fat of the developing eggs.

okay, i know i'm gonna get some bad responses for this, but in my family deep fried mantis shrimp (specifically H. Californiensis) is a delicacy! i've only had it a couple of times but it is good stuff!

PS: Props to ya if you can tell where i'm from!
 
i really wish i could find an L. Mac that simple but im pretty far from any ocean, luckily ive found a place that can order pretty much anything that i want in, i may have to get one
