They make a dryer cover that has a downfacing opening instead of the louvres. Just use that instead of the one with flaps :D

I have a dryer vent with a plastic screen on the bottom, similar to eggcrate, no louvers. You'll have to have something like that I think. If you break them off, you'll just have a hole in the wall.

Lol I pictured you with lumber sticking out the windows too :) sorry.

Edit, can't spell this late

LOL, I came home from Lowe's today with PVC sticking through the rear vents on the wifey's minivan :lol:

What he said is what I was saying ;)

Im just building my fishroom as well and I'm considering using one of these bathroom exhaust fans. I saw one at Lowes that has built in humidity sensing control for the fan. It is adjustable for humidity range and time it will stay on. It would be just a little bit more than the humidity controller you posted earlier. It would simplify the installation though.

How much did that one cost at Lowes?

Lowes just opened up 5 stores in Canada and one of them happened to be in my city.
It isn't on their website but It is part of their big display in the store. I think it was around $200.
I just found out that one of my co-workers worked at Broan/Nutone in the past and might be able to get me a deal on one.

those fans don't do so well with salt air. For the inbound vent, using a regular attic vent works well, but you have to be able to shop-vac the outside. They collect bugs like mad.

I'm not sure why they wouldn't work with salt air? Actually isn't the humidty produced from a marine tank just water vapour? When the water evaporates into a gas does it not leave the salt behind? Thats why we top up with fresh water and not salt water.

Also if you have a window in your fish room that has condensation from the tank water would it not leave a salt stain on the window if their was salt in the humid air? I don't think I've had to wipe salt from my window.

I bought two of those but there is still a flip on the inside. Did you bust that out so that it is open all the time??

PaPa_Johnny - Same one I have as JCTewks recommended.

nickjj - Nice find. 110CFM's...I would like more but my room is only 6ftx8ftx7ft or so. That enough? Also, do you know what they cost.

200 huh...wonder if that would be enough for what I need or if I should get a real inline fan and a humidity sensor??

So does anyone have a recommendation on a fan? I like the idea of a bathroom box style like nickjj showed at Lowes and if it senses humidity COOL! If it burns out then I could still find a replacement in town.

I did some searching on ebay and missed my chance to buy an inline fantech fan...it went for $66 :(
I found one for 99bucks
http://item.express.ebay.com/4-INLI...0QQitemZ180198366948QQihZ008QQcmdZExpressItem

$69 bucks for a used 100cfm fan!
http://item.express.ebay.com/Fantec...0QQitemZ250154277498QQihZ015QQcmdZExpressItem

170cfm for $127

I guess my 3 things are 1) what fan to get and 2) how do you keep the inlet vent from being open all the time. 3) do I put the fan pushing the air out of the room and use neg pressure to get air in or have it suck fresh air in and have the pressure push the humid air out

I need to figure out how I'm going to do this before I sheet rock the ceiling. Pretty much at a standstill till I get the fan plumbed in

Thanks

Yeah, as long as that cover is there to keep the rain and such from being drawn in...just pop the louvres off.

Awesome...i'll pop that one way flap off and get the hole drilled. I think I'll use 2 bath fans for now. One to the hoods on w/ the lights and one to the tank room on 24/7??

Lunchbucket

I would put the hood fan on the timer with the lights so that when the lights come on, the fan comes on. You'll want the room exhaust on a humidistat, or at minimum a thermostat....The room will prob get too cold if left on 24/7, esp. at night in the winter. I'd hate to see your system crash from a low temp when a thermostat/humidistat would easily automate the whole process for you.

Didnt see the fan say how many sounes it is or how loud. That looked like a good price but not sure about the sound level..

Yeah I'm sure I'll still buy a humidistat after all they are only 124 bucks and I think they do temp also.

I bought a 50CFM fan for the hoods that will go on w/ the lights and bought a 70 CFM for the room. Need to just figure out how I'm going to pipe them in and hook them up. Will need to wire a plug to them and will need to get an outlet to them sometime.

I got home at about 7pm and was crazy to do some rocking. Called my parents and asked for a hand or two. Wife in I hopped in the truck and went to Lowes. Got the rock for the ceiling, walls, and the yellow rock for the fish room and 2 bathroom fans. Parents crashed about 10:30...wife and I got a pizza and I kept going. Did the smaller sheets that we could lift.

This is the result. about 1 full sheet and a 8" x 12ft strip away from being done

Tomorrow have church and a funeral so I won't get to start till about 3pm but should be able to finish the celing and walls pretty easily. No tank room but living room will be done.

The ceiling is the worst part. Did you guys use / build a 3rd arm to help support the rock? Is that nailed or screwed? I prefer screws.

isn't that fun!?! I think it may just be the camera angle, but the spacing on the fasteners looks a bit wide. Did you go 6"?
