Eric,

All kidding aside, you're working hard on this and it shows....
Hats off to you man.

Regarding your wife helping out....I'm jealous your wife participates in the hobby with you. Mine is willing to look at the pretty fish in the tank, but thats about it. She accepts this as my hobby, and is happy with it as long as it makes me happy. But if I decided I was done with the hobby and got rid of everything, she wouldnt miss it either....

I think that if I gave it all up she wouldn't care either. Really I think she could do w/out me constantly doing stuff w/ the tank or talking about it. She just wants to the living room done :D So she gets something and so do I

Well I got VERY little done tonight. I drilled two 4 1/8" holes through the side of my house and into the room!!! I burned through my Dewalt XRP batteries like they were AAA's! I had to charge 1 for 1hr and try to get the rest of it and didn't get it all. Finally busted the rest of the wood and chipped it away...but I got them in!

Left one will be the outlet and right one will be the inlet. Outlet will have two bath fans wyed into it.

I have a thought. I'm thinking that I will sheet rock (paperless moisture rock) the whole ceiling except for the space inbetween the rafters where those vents are. This way if I ever need to get to those pipes I can w/out riping down the rock. I will seal all exposed wood w/ at least 2 coats of Zinser primer/sealer.

Don't expect much updates for the next couple days. Busy at work and one of my classmates dies on Monday and the funeral is Friday. Hope to work but we'll see how crazy things get

I'm sorry to hear about your classmate. :(

Nice progress. Those batteries are so expensive. Are yours pretty old? Keeping access to that area might be a good idea if you anticipate issues down the road. You might even incorporate manual dampers to open and close them as necessary, unless you think you'll always want them open.

Sorry about your classmate, it's never easy even when expected.

Another thing you could do with that space is install suspended ceiling tile in it. Just fasten the track to the bottom edge and install tiles that way it "looks" finished. Just a thought, white paint would look nice like you said also.

jnarowe - Why would I have to move that wire to keep it open?

Thanks for the condolences guys.

melev - My wife bought me the circular saw and drill combo for my B-day (Oct 2007) and my boss upgraded that to a 6piece kit. So they are new since about Nov. 2007 and really haven't been used much just for this framing and stuff. I should have grabbed mjy parent corded drill but that would mean that I would have to drive to town (8miles) and waste the time but it would have saved me in the long run :( Oh well live and learn. I don't know that I anticipate issues down the road but I will reside my house in the next 5yrs and I'm sure those vents will get moved or removed to reside. Manual dampers?? I would rather not have to rely on myself to remember to open and shut them. I'm going to rely on negative pressure to suck the fresh air in.

Papa - I thought about that too. I'm thinking white will be just fine.

well, it's code. You can't have exposed romex in a living space. (Not that I care of course, but you might.) :D

Very nice!!!! This is very similar to what I would like to do as soon as the housing market comes back and I can sell my current one and get one with a basement.:D

How about building a small ceiling access panel?

jnarowe - DANG IT. Hmmm...never saw it :D Does a fish room constitute a living space :D

just get a piece of that matel jacket and wrap it around there....the inspector will never know

You think like me :D and would probably work just fine.

Chuck - GOOD CALL....AFTER I rocked the ceiling today :D I'm not sure if that would work either. I'm gonna have a wye for the outlet (two bath fans) and the inlet...so Not sure If I can actually get the wye under the ceiling. I'll look though.

Well I did get the ceiling done tonight

I left that one area open. I'll just primer it w/ about 3 coats of zinzer and it will be all good.

I hope to finish all the rock by Saturday. I'm having a guy come out to look at the muding, taping, and texturing. My bosses are so good to me they gave me the guys number and told me to call him and set it up and not worry about paying for it....it was taken care of!!! Guess that is what they give me for leaving me for 1 month starting tomorrow :eek2:

Lunchbucket

Yeah they are AMAZING Jon...I've very fortunate to work w/ my bosses daily and feel like and equal (sometimes a higher up) and we still can do things out of work. Not many times people can do that. They spend the money but I get to make the decisions or get involved in them

Well I'm off to a not fun willed morning. I'll be back for more work tonight :D

Lunchbucket's tank soap operal continues until next time..........

Someone to tape, mud and sand the rock????????? Man! that is amazing. That is absolutely the most horrible part of the job and I personally pull a 5 inch vacuum doing it.

Congratulations on that and sounds like you have a wonderful occupation ;)

Oh don't even get me started. I can't even count all the times I was working all night long while she sat and watched Tv. I've been very blessed that she really helped out a TON w/ the rock. I could not have done it w/out her

OUCH what is this pick on me do. Give me a break I had bear block 2 weeks ago and now it's framed, insulated, and rocked!

The living room is all done so now the time focuses on the tank room. Need to drill my intlet and outlet vent tomorrow hopefully. Then I can insulate and rock the ceiling and get the tank back in teh tank room so I can make the "headers" for the top face of the tank viewing wall and do all the rocking in there. Hope to drill them tomorrow...but need to borrow a long pilot bit from my boss. I have a 4 1/8" hole saw in the basement just waiting along w/ the two dryer vent tubes and two bath fans. 50CFM to exhaust the hood and 70CFM to exhaust the room air.

Lunchbucket

Hey Lunchbucket. I am using a 120 cfm fan to vent my canopy (seven feet, by two feet by 2.5 feet) for four 400 watt metal halide lamps. This is so far inadeqate for me and I am getting ready to add another 120 cfm fan to push air into the canopy. To clarify, these are inline fans and the single fan is located about 10 feet from the canopy, venting by negative pressure through 4 inch duct, which naturally reduces the effective "pull".

Where are you putting those fans and how long are your duct runs?

Looking awesome. You are really taking time to do the setup right!

Ryan.
