In Lunch's defense he did ask me to stop by a couple of weeks ago but I haven't made it over there yet.

I'd be more than happy to add to your confusion!! Just PM when a good time is this week if you still want me to stop over.

Just draw it out on paper a few different ways then when you see it you can think if you want to change things or which one works best. That always helps me.

Haaa then I wind up going another way sometimes. But drawing stuff out evan though they I know I want things a different way it helps me top compare.. Good luck...

melev - Come on man I'm not a 14day person...heck if I had a perfect location I could do it if I had all the pieces. I'm looking for 14months :D

Phil - Not a problem. I don't think I have anything this coming weekend. I'll PM you

erics3000 - Yeah I was planning on drawing it out on paper tonight. My boss is starting a new gym and he doesn't have time to come over. He is amazing at layouts and has a knack for getting the right way. Need to get him over her and get his brother-in-laws (two of them) to move my furnace. That will be the start.

Ok, I used sketch up to do a quick layout of what my basement looks like right now.

It is like 1200something so I don't want to overload RC
It is big so right click and save to computer.

There is room to the right of the "current tank room" or what will become the family room but I need to figure out how to put a room there w/ a 4x4 tank and still expand the "family room" and have if flow well. I think that to the right of family room will be best as there is plumbing (a drain into the sewer) and the electrical panel is close to there. Just need to be efficient w/ my space. Also, depends on how large I extend the bathroom to put a shower in there.

Suggestions...just start posting them

Looking at it again, I think I would remove a couple of walls to open up the area, and make the bathroom longer. Please forgive my lack of artistic hacking.

That is pretty much what we want to do melev.

How big did you make the tank area? Tank is 4x4 but I wanted a room behind it and not sure how big of a functional room I can get back there. Heck I might be able to fit a tank room to make it functional. I should be able to get 90% of the stuff underneath the stand and could maybe make a 2-3ft wide removable sides for a 2-3ft space for equipment behind the tank?

It would probably be better ot have the tank on the other side of that plumbing as that room where you took the wall off of will be a family room for a couple couches and a tv center.

Ok I removed the walls we want to and expanded the bathroom 5ft. Not sure if that is enough or too much but a good guess.

Here you go.

I'm thinking the tank room would go right next to the bathroom wall (to the left of the bathroom). That wouldn't break up the livingroom too much but give me some space

Hope this helps visualize for people. Thanks for all the help

I like the idea of being able to see the tank from three sides. However, if you put it near the bothroom you still have two sides which is still nice.

If you made it even with the bathroom wall, you'd have 20" of space behind the tank to sneak through. I don't know if that is enough for you or not.

The spot I placed it makes the tank the centerpiece of the room. That would be my preference. Drawings like this one really help figure out your options.

Yeah I'm thinking I would face it towards the stairs? so that I get three sides viewable?

I like where you put it but it won't make that room functional :(

I heard back from Aquatic Eco and the ones they have are VERY short. Made for up to 1/2" material. They are instock so I think I might get those! Would save room and I can get them ordered

Just make it your Man Cave Tank Room and don't use it for anything other then enjoying and drinkin'

You can watch TV upstairs. ;)

LOL. One problem I don't drink....guess the TV stays

I put my tank where I had planned to put a giant flat screen.

And BTW, I think you can get thrown off RC for not drinking. I would keep that to yourself.

What about this guys? Sorry if it is too big

Only hard part is where to put the door and how to fit it? 7'6"x5'8" big enough for a tank room?

Lunchbucket

My fish room is 7' x 6' with a 280g IN IT. So that would be a nice one. What about a door going from the bathroom into the fishroom?

That's a nice layout, especially if you can hide the furnace area with some type of faux wall. I know you'll still have to have access from time to time, but something to keep from seeing it would be good.

I wish my tank room was larger. Don't forget about wall thickness if you are going to try and muffle the tank room noise. Since your lights will be outside, that will give you more room to work with.

Are you planning on installing a surge tank, refugium, or any other device that would be mounted above the tank?

Have you thought about how you will install ventillation?
