just fed San Fran brand mysis and brine and it knocked the foam down only about 1"...and about 10min later it is almost normal.

there must be a TON of oils in the PE mysis. i've heard they are the best but for killing my skimmer for 12hrs....i don't think i want that

i'm getting rid of my clams on friday. have a buddy that has a biz that sets up and maintains tanks and he is gonna sell them for me. not my 1st choice but the fish is impossible to get out and having the clams happy is my 1st priority. also i'll have more room for some corals (hint Travis hint) where the clams were

i'll get pics this weekend

This isn't an update. It is recycled old news. Look at the dates on those pictures!

You don't have much for the skimmer to pull out, apparently. How are your corals doing?

Is that all your skimmer is pulling out per week?
You must have a very light bioload.

Calfo says you should get 1 cup per day.

:beachbum:

melev - i'm sorry but i couldn't update my webpage till today so this is new news just not to me :D

that is 4-5days of skimmate.

in my 58gal i have
1 yellow eye kole tang
1 royal gramma
1 bangaai cardinal
2 clowns

i feed about of the small sized san fran bay cubes of frozen food everyother day and i do 15gal water cahnges everyother week.

one reason i got the new RC80 skimmer is that i though my old www.reefmania.net skimmer wasn't pulling hard. Travis borrwed it for his 58gal and it does pull hard. must be that my bioload is low. it takes me 4-5days before i get about 1/2-3/4cup of skimmate.

i'd rather have the bioload low then high and be battling algae and other problems. i really don't like pushing the limits of stocking. things can go downhill in a hurry

You hit the nail on the head there. I remember your last tank crash. You are definately on the right track now it seems.

That would be a low bio-load for the system and skimmer you have. If it was me I would still try to get a little wetter skimmate. It will pull the nutrients out faster, the only downside is you have to empty the cup more often. Although if it`s working for you now and your not battling algae you are probably ok where you have it.

Been awhile since I reread your entire thread so I don`t know if you just use the collection cup or run it to a container.

:beachbum:

Knyght - my bioload is almost exactly the same now as it was when the tank crashed. except i had a foxface then and a kole tang now. i believe it was Oceanic salt that led to my PO4 levels being CRAZY HIGH.

this is about the highest i feel comfortable going w/ my bioload but i would like a 6-line wrasse...one fish is gonna have to leave first i think

i think i might try to skim a little wetter. i do have some algae right now but i haven't changed my po4 reactor media for a LONG time. also algae takes a LOT longer to leave then it does to come.

no contiainer only in the collection cup

:lol:Yeah, Lunch, where is the "real" update.

You have the right mindset on keeping your bio-load low. A tank is so much easier to manage with a low bio-load. Things will also take longer to go south in the event that something goes wrong with your tank such as a power failure, or equipment failure, etc. The only downside is you don't get to see copious amounts of dry foam in your collection cup.:D

Eric,
you and I have pretty close to the same bioload. I have in my 58 gallon:

1 Tomini Tang
1 Royal Gramma
1 Chalk Bass
2 Percula Clowns

I clean my skimmer about once a week, sometimes a little longer in bewtween cleanings depending on how busy my life outside the tank gets....and I get real close to the same level of skimmate.

How often do you have to clean the glass?

Nick

Travis and melev hold your panties on. when the clams are gone tomorrow i'll get an updated pic :(

Travis - yeah it is nice to know stuff won't go south in a hurry...but i would like a cup FULL of nice nasty skimmate

maxx - thanks for posting buddy. it's nice to see that a tank (same size) stocked similarly pulls teh same foam for you as it does for me. i was worried for a while :D

heck i dont' know how much i clean my glass to tell you the truth. maybe every 3-5days...i'll have to keep track now :D

Lunchbucket

I'm noticing an increase in the algae growing on the glass of the tank, but I'm not surprised by it. My RO/DI filters needed to be replaced and I was in between paychecks for a bit....so I had to use water with a TDS of 14.....
I've noticed that with a BB tank and frequent siphoning and water changes, algae growth on the glass is waaaaaaaayyyyy less than before. Down from 3-5 days to maybe once every two weeks or so.

Nick

melev -

maxx - i hear you i was runing 12ppm water for a while before i got new filters. that is when my algae come out more. now i'm fighting it back and winning...i think

LOL! That statement alone reminds me of the Friends episode when Joey is wearing Chandler's pants and doing lunges while "Commando"!

so you got rid of the other skimmer hey. who got your old one? whan are you going to upgrade that nano to a real tank? say 200g+

spazz - i have the skimmer still. just lent it to Travis till he got his BK skimmer. i'm keeping it for a bigger tank. yeah i want a bigger tank but NO ROOM. hell my wife bugs me about getting a bigger one quite often. she wants more fish. but not right now. prolly when i move out of our apt

EnglishRebel - i need to get one of these too. don't remember which number i need but i'll look
