i'm uploading the pics of it running!! i can't believe the amount of bubbles in there!! UNREAL. in my other skimmer (reefmania like a 6-2+ clone). the chamber is white but i couldn't see each indivudual bubble..but on the RC80 i can see each TINY TINY bubble. i'm not sure if this was due to the slime coat on the inside of the RM skimmer or i couldn't see them before.

i was getting the water to start to get some bigger bubbles/wet foam and then i fed my fish and cleaned the glass...so back down the water went :D

i'll upload them and get pics up

Travis - the skimmer is cleaning in a vinegar bath...so it will be goo to go for you tomorrow. waht time do you go to work?

Lunchbucket

cool skimmer, a question for you. why are you replacing the reef mania skimmer? I've been interested in them for a while. I couldnt find the answer looking back through your thread.

because i get to be the first one to have a RC80..the FIRST :D sort of a test for ER and myself

also i love my RM skimmer...but i think it is TOO big for my tank and it looses it's efficiency since it is so big. i can't get dark coffee skimmate. only mid tea maybe. i used to be able to get dark w/ my ES5-2 (like the cs80 they have now).

but all in all i loved the RM skimmer. let Travis get it tomorrow and play w/ it and then we can see what it does

That is the wife and I's favorite part of the movie. We laugh every time we think about it.

The new skimmer looks nice as does the packing. Can't wait to see it start producing.

Your skimmer has been running on my tank for an hour or so now. Still not doing anything but I think it just needs to break in after the thorough cleaning. One thing I noticed is that the air intake is kinda loud. Did you notice the same?

i love that part of the movie to...it makes me laugh.

the skimmer will take a good couple days to a week or more i bet before it breaks in. after that amount of cleaning on it i'm sure it will need to slime up quite a bit

air intake is loud?? like what?

arconom - LOL he's got it all hooked up :D i just got home from SF where travis lives...LONG day

skimmer has pulled a little but of very very light stuff. there was some water in the bottom of the cup to start so i'm sure it is a little darker then the skimmate in the cup shows.

it looks to be breaking in nicely and the foam is starting to dry up. i'm not gonna judge it for a good 2 wks. then we will see what it is doing

Lunchbucket

Lunch, you are wise not to judge the skimmer yet. It can take up to a couple weeks for the plasticizers to get worked off of the acrylic.

As far as the noise on your RM skimmer, it is kinda hard to describe but there is a bit of a "choppy" sound coming from the air intake. From the sound, I figured it was coming from Sedra pump but it is definitely coming from the air intake. So far the skimmer still isn't producing anything. We will give it a little more time. Still a bit early to guess but I think the riser tube might be too narrow.

Travis - yeah it will take a while to get broken in right...but i hope it pulls coffee

a choppy sound? or is it a sucking gurgling sound? i don't know why the riser would be too narrow??

Lunchbucket

Lunch, I guess you can call it a gurgling sound. I wouldn't call it a sucking sound as it is definitely more than that. Right now this skimmer is the loudest skimmer I've ever run. My becketts were louder but with the silencers they were more quiet than this one.

my sedra needle wheel on that skimmer that i gave you is sort of chewed up on the front. not sure what happend or why but i think that might have something to do w/ it. i should get a new needle wheel and a new spacer for the front of it.

the loudest??? geeze...i don't know if i would say that. it wasn't noticable in my living room. heck i wasn't really loud at all. wonder what is up?

Lunchbucket

Is it kind of like a 'crunching' noise?

My NW skimmer made that noise. Almost like when you put ice in a blender and put in on liquify. Needless to say I have recently switched to a beckett and you can't hear it at all. :)
