:lol:Nobody could ever catch Fliger. He changes skimmers more often than some people change water.

LOL.....he its his money so if he wants to spend it that way its on him. (Fliger)

I will definately post up what happens with the bryopsis both here and on my thread. I also just changed my bulbs....I probably should have waited, but it needed to be done.

NO WAY i can catch fliger nor would i want to. i've only had 3 skimmers on this tank :D

maxx - do keep us posted buddy

Wow I never saw this thread until a friend told me about it. Your tank looks great LB.

LOL on my skimmer fetish. And I just got a 2 month old MCE600 for a holding tank, I have a custom H&S coming from Germany in a few weeks, and I also have one of those Elos NS1000 skimmers coming from Italy on my new tank. ;-) After a horrible tank crash a couple years ago and a LOT of white SPS - I became more addicted to equipment than tanks. But I'm done now and just want to relax again by watching my tank and drink a beer. I just want a managable tank (Elos 120XL) so I'm trying to decide what skimmer will work best on it. LB - I'm sure you'll love that Deltec. I did have the A110 and it was a great skimmer, I'm sure the Deltec is every bit as good. (oh and i had the bk300 ext - and i did have a few tanks that all those skimmers went on, lol)

(edit) It also comes with being have 50% German and 50% Asian - 100% equipment junkie. Also from being married to a beautiful woman who knows how much golf and stereo equipment cost, but still thinks protein skimmers cost a few hundred bucks!!!!

HOLY CRAP !!!! I didn't know you had all of those coming... What did you / are you doing with your BK300 EXT ??

Sorry I was thinking you has the BK400, that was moonpod :)

I sold the BK about a month ago. I actually bought it for my 340 but got rid of it when my wife decided she wanted to move last year. I ran the BK on a 150. I took that BK down and put the 702 on it. I had decided on this Elos tank a few months ago and I really prefer H&S so I had it custom ordered to fit underneath the short stand. Then of course I find out that the Elos "system" comes plug n play. Plumbing, sump, skimmer, top-off, return pump, connecters ... everything. Just fill with water and rock, plug it in. So I ended up with two skimmers for it. I set up a 37G to hold most of my corals (sidewinder770 has the rest) and a local was selling the Deltec so I bought it, it was only a few months old! I can't wait to get it!

I've seen moonpod's 400 and its a friggin animal.

I just saw your thread the other day, it looks KILLER!!!!

Well, you might definately be one to ask this then....

Fliger, which skimmer do you prefer, Deltec or H&S, and why?

Nick

In general I don't really prefer either - I think depending on your needs sometimes is Deltec and sometimes its H&S. If you need a HOB, only Deltec offers them. If you want an in-sump, only H&S offers them. On many like models, H&S is much less expensive (at least here in the US, not really outside of the US). There are two things on the cylinder skimmers that I do prefer on H&S tho. H&S (and bubble king) use acrylic above the cylinder and Deltec uses ABS plastic. You can't see thru the ABS and thats an important area to see when fine tuning them. Acrylic is more expensive to work with but I think the choice to use it in this area is worth it. H&S (and bk) also use a wedge pipe, where Deltec uses a ball valve on some models. The wedgepipe is super easy to adjust, I found the ball valve to stick a little, and its harder to fine tune them. Sometimes it just comes down to size, in like models sometimes Deltecs are taller and sometimes H&S are taller. They're both incredible brands, for my spare no expense system I got a H&S, but I also just got the MCE600. My favorite skimmer ever tho was the A200 2x1260. It skims things out as fast as you can add them. But in some like models the cost difference is dramatic - you can get a H&S A150 for $650 and the AP600 costs close to that but uses a smaller pump and much less acrylic.

Sorry for the thread hijack LB!!! Both companies are RC sponsors and have some very informative forums!

Fliger - you just now found my thread  where you been man :d thank for the compliments buddy!

i'm sure i'll lvoe the Deltec too!! just need to get it next week :D curious to see the mystique behind them. i could ahve gotten a 110 as they are similar sized and tested the ER vs Deltec vs H&S...might have to someday.

thanks for all the information!!! no problem hijacking...i would have asked all the questions anyhow. thanks for your opinions on the skimmer comparisons.

OxInYourBox - thanks buddy :D

i wasn't supposed to get my AP600 till monday but i guess it must have caught some right flights cause it was just delievered this morning. i was at home and my work called and said there was a package for me....i was confused till i got there and saw who it was from!!! i wish the fedex guy would have been there when i got there cause he would have gotten a BIG hug

i've had this happen w/ 2 out of my 1 billion things i have ordered. they must have had some sat delievery items and decided to throw this on too. i came home one time to find a lighting ballast on my front porch when i looked on sunday..was delievered sat out of the blue.

i'm glad i didn't ahve to wait ALL weekend!!!

anyhow i was excited as heck so i ripped into it. and here are the pics!

anyone guess what is here??!!!

here is my website about the AP600 that i will be updating

these are pics after 12hrs

i talked to Doug from Deltec and Marvin from Atlantis Aquariums and they got me straightened out on where the water level should be in the skimmer. i hvae if fixed now. in the pics the water levels was too low!

Deltecs are different then most skimmers. you don't restrict the output side of teh AP600. you want the water level at a certain height in the skimmer body or you measure the GPH going through you skimmer. then from there you adjust the amount of air with a valve...that controls your skimmate. we'll see how easy this is to master compared to other skimmers where you leave the air wide open and adjust the water w/ the output restriction

i'll post pics in a day or two of how it is breaking in
any questions just ask

with all the hype about H&S vs Deltec vs Euro-Reef i figured i better make up a page on my thoughts. not too many peopel besides fliger have run all three and know thier in's and outs. most people spout off when they have used one of them or saw one on someones tank.

this is the main reason for getting the AP600...to compare it to the ER RC80.

i have started a AP600 vs RC80 webpage which i will update as things go along. please keep an eye out for updates and please ask questions along the way

That is a great looking skimmer Lunch. When I came by to see your tank last week it looked like the skimmer was doing a magnificent job.:)

On your website you may want to change one thing. You have it listed that the Deltec has PVC "sheeting". AFAIK, it is ABS, which is not a very sturdy material.

From what I've read, the S-curve (what ER uses) is the superior design for transitioning from the reaction chamber to the smaller riser neck. It has something to do with fluid dynamics and the way the water flows up the curve minimizing bubble collision. AFAIK, ER is the only company at this time using the S-curve. That is just what I have read, so not sure if it is factual or not.

I wasn't aware that you have to use your feed to control the water level in the Deltec. I'm interested to see how well that works compared to the ball valve on the ER. I have used skimmers with ball valves and wedge pipes for setting water height. Of those 2, I prefer the wedge pipes.

oh yeah oops that is ABS not PVC sheeting. knew something looked funny on that.

interesting about the S-curve. i knew there was fluid dynamics involved but that is OVER my head

on the AP600 APF600 and AP500 you use the input to control the level. i believe on the larger models you do too. but the larger models (701 and higher) have the same style ball valve as the ER..you know like the ones you have on your tank that you can loosen or tighten.

wedge pipes huh? no idea what that is but it is on your MONSTER BK :D
