Interesting reads guys...thanks for the heads up as I've noticed this in my system as.
Something else to post up. The bryopsis is fading and is less than a third of what it was 2 weeks ago. However, I cant directlya ttricbute it to any one thing, and its not all gone.
I was never able to get my Mag above 1420. I have absolutely no idea why, but everytime I tried, something was using it....might attempt to continue the Mag dosing regimen in order to try and get it that high and hopefully eradicate the remaining bryopsis.
I changed out my bulbs. I've heard this helps but at this point I cant say definitively whether or not its responsible for the bryopsis fade or not.
My diadema urchin finally decided to get off the one rock it had be refusing to move from since it was introduced to the tank.
Had the urchin not started moving around, I'd be willing to theorize that the lights were responsible for the dramatic change. I say this because I was never able to raise my Ma beyond 1420, which is quite a bit different than 1500.
Had the bryopsis gone away prior to me changing my bulbs, with my mag levels raised to 1420, I'd more willing to give credence to the theory that elevated magnesium will help with bryopsis since the I see the urchin's path on my rock work, and I see some areas of bryopsis where the urchin has already passed...and some receding where the urchin has never been.
So right now all I can do is say that its going away and these are the changes that have occurred in my tank that might have been the cause of the algae recession.
