Lunchbucket's New 58gal RR inprogress - LOTS OF PICS

Water input is the only way you can control the height on the AP600 and APF600? That seems strange. Do some people use a gate valve? I would imagine that would be worthwhile mod.

The wedge pipe is what H&S and Bubble King uses. Its extremely easy to change the water level in the body without changing the amount of input. The helps keep your flow thru constant, but adjust for wet or dry skimmate.

This is what a wedge pipe looks like:

You turn it and it changes the water level in the skimmer. As Fliger stated, these are used on the BK's and H&S line. A LOOOOONG time ago I used to run an Aquamedic Turboflotor, which also used wedge pipes.

Flinger - you can add a gate valve on the output but the beauty is...its NOT NEEDED. that is one of the selling points no modding needed!!

just wait till this baby breaks in. can't wait to see that

Great looking skimmer lunch. I have a question for you about something other than the skimmer. If I remember, you are using a mag 9.5 as a return pump. How are you running a pump that size into a 10 gallon sump without visible microbubbles in the tank?

We ALL can't wait to see it, it looks nice totally clean! ;-)

On the GV, I dunno - having used the A110 I would disagree, it would be beneficial to raise and lower your water levels. AAMOF, the AP600 and APF600 are the only two German import recirculating NW's that don't have some sort of valve or wedge pipe. But then I like to tinker. ;-)

Congrats on the new skimmer Eric. would love to see it in person one of these days. as i can only drool over your Deltec and Travis's BK until i finally step up to the Quality skimmers:lol: but my ASM is doing great so far so i can't complain yet

Josh125 - yep mag 950. it runs through my 1/10hp PCI chiller first. that kills the flow a LOT. when i first set up the tank though it ran straight through. it was quite a bit of flow for the 10gal sump...but IIRC i didn't have that many micro bubbles. not sure what i get out of the pump now...not sure how big the chiller insides are. i'm guessing 400gph on the low end.

Fliger - yeah i want to see it all mucked up...today i'll take pics! yeah the AP and APF600 are the only models that don't come w/ the exit valve. Twinsreef modded hits and put one one....voided his warrentee in the process but he didnt' mess up so it was ok :D

kau - thank. come ove to stare at it anytime you want. might have to fight me for a spot on teh floor though :D glad the ASM is rocking away.

another skimmer! well you change skimmers like i change clothes. now im going to have to make the trip out to see those 2 skimmers in action. the bk and deltec.

i got this skimmer so you would come visit :D i might have a few corals that are fragable size.

the BK is WAY more impressive just by its size!! it is a sight to see

well Travis was over last week and saw my tank. i asked him what i could improve...cause it is nice to hear what your tank needs. he suggested that my corals looked light. i figured they would be light as i have a LOT of light on my 58gal tank. we also chatted about my system being nutrient poor and that might be a cause too

he dug up a nice thread on faded SPS in nutrient poor high light systems

seems other people are running into this problem also.

i am upping feedings to everyday (used to feed everyother day) and lowering my 20k photo period from 10hr to 9hr this week...then 8hrs next week.

sounds like i just need to throw some more nutrients into my system as teh SPS might not be getting all they need.

i might try some Zeo amino acids or coral vital sometime along the way. those will be the only things of Zeo i will try. i'm not doing the Zeo system

thought you guys might like to hear about his or discuss it. seems to be a bigger topic then i ever though!

Just feed :) I feed daily and have had no issues at all. Wow another skimmer lol. It's hard to tell the true difference between them beside the pump.

Hey Lunch, I'd be interested to see how CV works for you. I recently started dosing Prodibio. The Reef Booster is really intersting stuff. Very oily, fatty, fish/shellfish smell. My tank(s) are very low nutrient and I have noticed some don't have as deep a color as they once had. With a big skimmer, barebottom and tons of flow - it seems great for growth, maybe not so great for deep colors. So I figured dosing some of the products from KZ or Prodibio can't hurt. I've recently also heard of PolypLab. I noticed PE on SPS and LPS like I'd never seen before with the Reef Booster. Like you, I could never keep up with the Zeovit system with my travel schedule. But I would like to try the CV for sure, and maybe the AAHC.

Fliger, I didn't realize you were using Prodibio. Do you have a thread that talks about your experiences with it? Have you been following Iwan's thread? I am contemplating possibly trying the Prodibio or PolypLabs products. I was going to try ZEO but decided it was a little too much $$ for my budget right now.

I just want to point out that while I noticed Lunch's corals were a little on the light side they were certainly not bleached or unhealthy looking. I thought the tank looked great, the corals looked really healthy and grow like weeds for him. But some of them do look a little on the light side and I think would pop a little better with some deeper colors. These are pieces like the cali and Orgegon torts that usually have fairly rich colors but looked a tad on the lighter side. I'm sure he will figure out what is lacking and have deeper colors in no time!

jay24k - i'm gonna start feeding one small cube/day.

yeah a new skimmer :smokin: they are VERY similar looking. the Deltec is breaking in so we will see how they compare

Fliger - that "faded sps thread" was the first i have heard of Prodibio, Polyplab and such. guess i'm behind times.

i'm w/ you. my growth is great but my colors are just a touch light.

Travis - thanks for the clarification. they are not bleached...they are just lighter. i hope they deepen up and pop more like yours. we'll figure it out :D

Interesting reads guys...thanks for the heads up as I've noticed this in my system as.

Something else to post up. The bryopsis is fading and is less than a third of what it was 2 weeks ago. However, I cant directlya ttricbute it to any one thing, and its not all gone.

I was never able to get my Mag above 1420. I have absolutely no idea why, but everytime I tried, something was using it....might attempt to continue the Mag dosing regimen in order to try and get it that high and hopefully eradicate the remaining bryopsis.

I changed out my bulbs. I've heard this helps but at this point I cant say definitively whether or not its responsible for the bryopsis fade or not.

My diadema urchin finally decided to get off the one rock it had be refusing to move from since it was introduced to the tank.

Had the urchin not started moving around, I'd be willing to theorize that the lights were responsible for the dramatic change. I say this because I was never able to raise my Ma beyond 1420, which is quite a bit different than 1500.

Had the bryopsis gone away prior to me changing my bulbs, with my mag levels raised to 1420, I'd more willing to give credence to the theory that elevated magnesium will help with bryopsis since the I see the urchin's path on my rock work, and I see some areas of bryopsis where the urchin has already passed...and some receding where the urchin has never been.

So right now all I can do is say that its going away and these are the changes that have occurred in my tank that might have been the cause of the algae recession.

maxx - thanks for the heads up on the mag and bryopsis! keep us posted.

my bryopsis isn't coming back as fast either. i'm pulling at least 2times weekly and blowing it off every day. i hope it goes away for good :(
