JK Eric...
:D

The new skimmer looks good. Thats a TON of bubbles in there.
Other than having to make an new feed pump manifold for it, have you had any issues with it?

Lookin good Lunch.:) That soli is coming along nicely. The frag is growing a lot faster in your tank than it was in mine.

that soli has taken off like a bat out of...well you know where. it really has grown nicely and is coloring up great too. only bad part is that i'm gonna need a new tank to hold this thing!!!!

Lunchbucket

I'll be happy to help you out with with space. Feel free to send me a frag or three from your tank.

:D

Hey question for you, Travis, and Melev, (And anyone one else w/ experiance with these either):

Do you guys use a Temp controller? If so what kind? I'm really kicking around the idea of getting one to run a run for a more stable tank. My chiller is a 1/4 hp and its too large for my tank and runs constantly because of that. I'm pretty sure that if I ran a fan on a temp controller, I'd be able to keep things more stable, as opposed to a 4 degree swing every 15 minutes.

Nick

Hi maxxII,
I really like the Ranco controllers. They are cheap and very reliable. I believe the cheapest place you can get them is at DIYreef.com. I have a dual stage that controls my heaters and fans. My temp is set at 78, if it goes up to 79 the sump fans bring it back down. My chiller has a single stage Ranco on it. If it is too warm and the fans cannot bring the temp down alone, the chiller will then kick on at 80. This has saved me a lot in electrical costs. You can buy unwired or prewired controllers. The only difference is the prewired are a little more $$. Wiring them up yourself is really easy. I wired my dual stage with power strips so I could control multiple heaters and fans with it. Here is my tutorial for wiring up the dual stage:

maxx - i've used the dual stage Ranco when i had the 20H. when i went to the 58 i've been using my aquacontroller.

the ranco is an easier and more stable option. they are pennies for what they can do for you. great little piece of equipment

Thanks guys...
Search button wasnt working, so I looked thorugh 30+ pages of the equipment forum hoping to find some info. When I didnt, I started a thread, but got info along the lines of "Buy this one."

No personal experiance mentioned, or reasons given as to why I should "buy this one". So I figured I'd ask you guys about it.

I appreciate it.

Nick

Nick I have personal experience with the ranco etc 111000 single stage. I have been using 1 to control my heaters for close to a year now. It works very reliably and was very easy to hook up. The single stage can control either heating or cooling duties, you just switch the mode in the simple interface. You can control how many degrees it will swing prior to turning off too, so you can have it set to come on at 80 and not turn off until 78 if that is what you are looking for. If you buy the dual stage it is a little more money but it can control 2 channels, so it would be able to turn on and of both heaters and chillers (or fan) They are easy to wire up and can be had for very cheap. I just bought another one a few minuits ago on Ebay for $49.99 brand new to controll a freezer that I am converting to a kegerator.

Thanks Tom,

I looked on ebay trying to find some, but wasnt able to locate them. I'm honestly not that familiar w/ ebay, so I'm probably using the wrong key words for the search or looking in the wrong areas.

Kegerator huh?? Now I know where to go for the coldest beer in town!

Yup I have my whole setup down in my basement. I am running the main 90g show tank, as well as a 72x30x9" frag tank off of a 75g sump and a 50g fuge that I am about to fire up down there. It is a great place to hang out with a couple reef buddies and drink beer and talk s#!t :D

thought you guys need an update on teh APF600 skimmer. should be broken in now. i have cut back my feedings to everyother day as i want to eliminate some bryopsis and to limit my nutrients like before.

here is the cup after 4days. i have been cleaning the inside riser w/ a tooth brush. i believe it was astrea who showed this too me w/ a test tube brush. this has helped the skimmate production a LOT. just do that every night and i have been getting more skimmate!!!

4_days_nog.JPG

i have the flow issue figured out w/ the 3/4" plumbing and the maxijet on 1/2"ID hose as high as possible. also the 1.5" PVC out let has stopped the gurggling and let it be more "free flow" but able to be directed to some place

later

hey lunch you are figuring out that the riser tube should bee smooth and clean at all times to get maxinmum performance out of the skimmer. thats why wet skimming is better than dry skimming. and the wet necks are designed to clean the risers for you. that way you have peak performance all the time. its the same as running the brush inside the riser tube.
thats a nice skimmer but i think for the money you paid for it deltec could have done a nicer job of cleaning up the seams and edges on that skimmer. other than that there an awesome skimmer.
have you see the skimmer that bill wan is building? its a 25" diameter skimmer. i plan to build one like it for energys tank.
