well have done 3 doses of prodibio. no big results yet. the bryopsos continues to try to grab footholds in new parts of the tnak. will manually remove it w/ hemostats and will keep up w/ the low feedings, prodibio, rowa phos changed monthly, carbon 24/7, good skimming, etc.

one crazy observation...i think my tang has ICH!!!!!! :eek1:. i haven't seen ich on him since i did the hyposalinity treatment back in 4/30/05!!!! hmm...wonder what triggered that. added nothing new to that tank (livestock) in MONTHS...prolly 3months or more....and no new fish for a year i bet.

oh well i'm sure he'll fight it off. it's like the common cold i think for fish. they just need to fight it off.

every month at least. the last 2-3months i've been doing that. i'm thinking of getting some more rowa and changing every 2-3wks for a while. also thinking of getting some AZNO3 and dosing some smaller doses to get the nitrate out too. i don't have any detectable leves w/ a test kit but it is in there some place just like po4 if i have algae growth. the algae is binding it up so it is not in the water. taking these two nutrients out of the water could help limit the growth and hopefully dwindle the bryopsis.

i pulled a TON last night. took me 2-2.5hrs of pulling. there were some BIG patches in teh back that i didn't think i could get to. well i got the wife to be my eyes and guide my plastic grabber thing while i stood in front of the tank and moved and grabbed. it worked well and i got almost ALL of the patches in the back. my sand has basically turned to concrete which sucks for bryopsis growth. before i could just take that patch of sand w/ the algae but now it is stuck to sand that is stuck in the bottom of the tank. lots of little nooks to grow out of.

i'm determined to nail this stuff!!! i'm ordering the AZNO3 and more rowa today. might use a phosban and rowa blend to save some $$ on using just straight rowa

Lunch,
Where did you find the info about dosing prodibio 1 per wk instead of 1x per 2wks? I don't have a dirty tank either, but I would like to see if it can lower my phosphates a little quicker.

Did you half the dose or just dose the same but at a greater frequency.

Chris

Chrisrush - it actually says on the package i believe to dose more frequently for a dirtier tank. also i asked Rob @ www.robsreef.com . visit the prodibio forum on there - http://www.robsreef.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=2

quote from thier site
BIO DIGEST :1 amp. for up to 1,000 litres. If the aquarium is very dirty, do not overdose, but use one ampoule per week. Shake each ampoule well to ensure that bacteria deposited on the tip of the ampoule are held in suspension.

kau - i usually get stuff like AZNO3 from Premium Aquatics here is a link to AZ-NO3

Interesting. I'm guessing that this will populate the bacteria colony faster, and hopefully uptake the nitrates and phosphates quicker.

Hey Lunch, I battled bryopsis in my little 30g cube for about 6 months. I pruned the stuff at least once/week (over an hour or more each time) with little improvement. Eventually it began to grow with less vigor, and I was "this close" to adding AZNO3 but instead I got 3 lettuce nudibranchs. Here's 2 of'em.
lettucenudis2.jpg

Over the past 2.5 months I've watched them consume the bryopsis to a quantity that I never have to prune. Tank maintenance seems so effortless now that I'm not pruning bryopsis. The lettuce nudis themselves do require some baby sitting. They regularly get into my overflow where they can't do what they've been hired to do, and I have to replace them onto the reef. I'm now becoming concerned that they'll soon run out of food, which would be just fine by me, as I would give them to a fellow reefer or trade them in toward a new coral that would not get overrun by bryopsis!

chrisrush - i believe that is what AZNO3 does but it does that for NO3 and not PO4

Dudester - i've been debating getting a few of those...prolly two. but i can' justify spending 40+ on shipping for two little nudis!!! i would trade them to a local reefer if they ran out of food too. wonder how easy they would get eaten up in my tunze????

where did you get yours from? i've been thinking Marine Depot live

i ordered a 250g of Rowaphos and a 150g of Phosban and the AZNO3 today :D battle on!!

I got mine at my LFS for $12 each. Like I mentioned, I got 3 of them, but 1 disappeared after about 2 weeks. The others I've been able to rescue from the overflow, from the sump, and from my closed loop drain pipe on many, many occasions. They definitely require some looking after, but they've done a great job in my tank of eradicating the bryopsis. For a tank of your size, I'd recommend that you get at least 4 of them. Your Tunze might be a problem - you may have to enclose the intake with some window screen or similarly protective material. The lettuce nudis are so "mushy" they can contort themselves into a very small size and get through some very little openings if they're sucked on with enough force.

A lady down here sells them for 4 dollars a piece in her clean up crews. She's always pretty dang cheap

well my AZNO4, rowa phos, and phosban should be here tomorrow. i pulled bryopsis last night and dang not much is growing!!! wierd thing is that the stuff i do pull seems to come out of the rock easier then before. also some places almost seem to have a mushy detitus covering on them or around them. wonder if this is the Prodibio digesting some of it? anyone?

i took some pics tonight. need to reinstall photoshop to adjust my levels and i will hopefully post pics tomorrow for you all

Any new corals Lunch? Did you ever find out if you got red bugs or not? I thought you mentioned you were worried but never saw any signs.

no new corals. too scared of getting teh dreaded AEFW's. i don't have red bugs as i nuked the tank at least over 1yr ago and i've treated all new incoming corals w/ the interceptor treatment.

i mentioned that i was scared of gettting the AEFW's...no signs yet

i'll try to get the pics done tonight
