Sam - great idea on QT'ing everything. wish i would have done that from the beginning. i did the RB treatements which is all we knew of at the time. now there is much worse adn i hope that i haven't gotten bitten in the butt by something...time will tell

Lunchbucket

Not a problem Eric. I was hoping that my soli was really an efflo in sheeps clothing. Would have been an even better deal since it was free.

chris - no such luck there buddy :D

on a bad note. i was cleaning up bryopsis. there was some on teh clam shell so i grabbed it w/ some hemostats...and it slipped out and fell on the soli. :( busted off one branch...not too much damage but still ticks me off

Lunchbucket

Sucks when that happens but look at the bright side. Now you have a frag that you can grow out and use as trading material.;) In fact, the frag that you got was created when I was moving my colony and dropped it about 18" to the bottom of the tank.

Travis - good point. only problem is i don't have anywhere to put the frag :D i need a bigger tank or a frag tank :D also i put it back on the main colony...sort of let it wedge its self in the branches so that it grows back together. that baby is too small to start busting frags off.

you going to the meeting on sat? i'm pretty darn sure i am. any chance i could come see my fav local tank :D

Lunchbucket

Hey Lunch, as you already know, I was not at the meeting. Was out of town Wednesday evening through Sunday. I will be at the next meeting and you can stop by before or after that one if you want.

Like???????????????????????????????????????????????/

C'mon man, you cant be throwing a statement like that out without a little information...

I've got upgrade plans in the works too...

.......But I'll only tell you if you tell me about yours.

Nick

i'm gonna be getting a Deltec PF501 Ca Rx to replace the ReefMania Ca Rx. the footprint is too big as i want to make a bigger sump and add a refugium. i can't expand the sump w/the current reactor. well i will be able to in the near future

Lunch ,
You know i have a refuge with chaeto after all my snails die from eating Dinos my Chaeto also stop grown all together was nothing in the water for it to grow it just broke apart and start to disintegrate . Just so you know . You need to have some nutrients in the water for any algae to florist .
You are growing some algae ;) so you may be ok .

Ahh...thought you were upgrading tank size. I was gonna have to smack you for trying to fix what isnt broken.

I on the other hand....set my tank up wrong and have decided to set up a new one using different methodologies...I'm going to try a sandbed and use Stream's in place of the OM unit for water circulation. I really want to cut down on electrical usage for my tank, and see if I can get away with not using a chiller.

I'm in the process of setting up a 120 that will be primarily for my H.magnifica anemone, and will have a few SPS corals.....assuming I can find some that arent infested w/ AEFW's.....

Got the stand built, (sealing it with urethane), have the majority of the equipment I plan on using to run it.....just need to finish up with some things, and get it up and running for a few months before I break down the 58 and transfer everything over.

Nick

nah not upgrading sizes YET. i'd like to when we move to a house 1-3yrs. i'd like to do a 120 or so at that time. good thing is most of the equipment i ahve can be used on that tank

i hope you find AEFW free corals :( still bumbed about that one for you man!

well where the heck are the pics??!! what you gonna use for equipent? you start a new thread on it yet?

later
Lunchbucket

No new thread yet. I want to get the ball rolling first.
Right now the stand is being sealed. I have one more coat of urethane to go on the upper portion of the stand, then need to lay three coats on the bottom, and plywood top.

I'm using two 6000 Streams for closed loop purposes, and an Eheim 1262 running through a Sea Swirl for return, (had the SS lying around). Sump will be a 55 gallon tank I have added baffles to. Bought a new Geo 612 Calcium Reactor, and will be buying a H&S A150-F2001 for skimming duties. I plan on using the same lights, and selling my old skimmer, calcium reactor, OM unit and Iwaki pumps to recover some of the cost of the new equipment. I'd like to switch over to either the Lumenarc 3's or the new LumenMax 2's from Sunlight Supply, but I'm waiting to see how the LM's compare to the LA's when Sanjay tests them side by side.

I eventually plan on adding more Streams later on down the road. I did some looking around and realized my 1/4 hp PCH chiller, (CL-650) was using 5.8 amps of electricity every time it kicked on...and it does that frequently, even in winter. I also realized my Iwaki 55RLT is using about 3.1 amps of power to run my closed loop. So between the two of those right there, I'm using almost 10 amps of electricity....
Two 6000 Streams and the Eheim 1262 use 140 watts by way of comparison. I'm REALLY hoping that removing the high heat pumps from the system, (Iwaki 55RLT for CL, Mag 7 sump return, Mag 9 chiller feed) will lower my tanks heat to the point that I dont need a chiller. If I do need a chiller, I expect I wont be needing one that power hungry...hopefully no more than 1/10th hp worst case scenario.

This tank will primarily showcase my H.magnifica anemone, but I intend to add an H.crispa later on down the line as well.

So yeah, I'm going sandbed and fuge for this new tank...

Hopefully, I'll be able to find some AEFW free acros....I dont want too many as the anemone's will be the main focus of the tank....but I really liked the look of Cward's tank, (last months TOTM) with the few large coral colonies and the relatively open look to the tanks layout.

But I'd also cheerfully take your tank.

:D

Nick

Eric,
I just re-read my last post and realized it read like I was asking for frags.....sorry about that. It wasnt the intent, more of a rant than anything else, with the added bonus of acknowledging how good your tank looks.
Sorry about that....

It will take a bit of time to get going, but I should have the annoying stuff done here soon, (poly urethane on the stand etc).

Nick

Nick - didn't take that post that you were asking at all. you just stated you wanted AEFW's free frags when you get up and running. never said from me :D

well i'm off to cut my acrylic to redo my sump.
here my schematic of what i am doing
http://www.lunchbucket.org/images/sump_revamp2.jpg

i'm not going to be able to add a lot of room for a refuge...but i will have one!! also i will be able to turn the skimmer front to back and have some room for an acclimation area. the sump will be 4" longer and a touch deeper (front to back). also in the back left corner there is a area for the overflow from the tank. the skimmer will feed the fuge. also i will be able to feed my skimmer from the overflow and get rid of a pump. oh and the PO4 Rx will move from HOT to hang on sump. and i'm adding a carbon reactor. i have some really fine carbon (about the same as rowaphos size) call aquasorb 2000 (i think). so the po4 will get fed by a pump and then the po4 reactor will feed the carbon reactor and dump back into the sump. there will be some area in the stand to put some supplies i have laying around the stand (the wife will be happier).

this is my 1st acrylic project that needs to be done really well. i'm borrowing my boss's table saw as on mine the fence sucks and never cuts anything square. i bought .22 and .25" acryic at lowes yesterday. i got the .22 because it was 18"x24" pieces. the sump will be 24" long so i don't have to cut this piece for length :D the .25" is 24x48" piece. i'll cut it all up and use weld on #3 (i dont' have #4 :( ) and i have some #16 incase it doesn't match up perfect.

anyone ever used the wire inside of a bread twist tie for the pins when gluing acrylic? they work well or they too thin?

wish me luck!
oh and i'll get pics along the way!
Lunchbucket

good luck Eric. BTW is the Acrylic from Lowes good enough to put water in as I have heard diff. stories about that acrylic and there were some projets i would like to do also but was never sure on getting it from there.
