Lyle's 150H in-wall build (with pics)

I'll have to get one of those! I also think it was your thread that mentioned the cheap rodi systems from air water and ice right? I hate the suction cup mounts. I always find my thermometer floating around in my tank somewhere.

Sailfin are beautiful! I wish I had a larger tank to get one, luckily I'm still able to keep a Kole :D I say now that you've got a Q setup and running, wait on the hippo till last. QT him for about 4-6 weeks and see if he has any ich signs. Hell, you could even dose the cupramine just to be 100% while he's in there!

I remember the whole brain, and the attempt to frag it. It will grow soon enough, no worries. Can't wait to see the tank back in action man!

Hey Lyle, quick question. In the middle of your tank on the back wall, how did you mount that coral/rock?

Home stretch! I dosed my QT with Prazipro today so I should be ready to put the fish back in the DT next weekend. Finally!

In preparation I put the last of the corals I had for the DT in there today too. I wanted to get them in there so I could treat with Flatworm Exit one last time before putting the fish in since I still have some stragglers living in the DT. I may move them around a bit, but they seem to be taking to the tank pretty well.

I'm getting some corals from Tim but other than that I'm probably gonna hold off on any more coral at this point. I'm going to frag a bunch of these way back so I can try and shape them a little better and see how they grow in. I have a bunch of room in the coral QT tank now and I'll finally have the frags I've talked to so many of you about! And now that I'm getting my fish out of the QT I can finally buy some new fish too. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a trio of bartlett's, a kole tang, and a sailfin tang...all at once. You guys think that would be OK?

WOOHOOOOOO!!!! Finally, the fish can go back! I'm excited for you man! What new corals are you thinking about getting? I don't like this "holding off on any more corals" idea... -_-

But I do like the fish selection!

hahah...I have like 10 kinds of SPS in there and 5 LPS, 4 zoas/palys, and even a non-photosynthetic. I have a few big pieces coming to me (or several smaller ones) so I'm running out of space to allow for grow out. Knowing me though I'll be picking up more corals sooner than later. I bore easy!

Hahaha, well I'm looking forward to these pictures this weekend!

I got some great corals from Tim last weekend...thanks again Tim!

This was right after dipping and putting in the QT. It now has great extension and is just beautiful. This is probably my favorite.

This one is also amazing.

Awesome chalice.

These purple zoas have opened up now. The only problem is that the world's tiniest aiptasia lives smack dab in the middle of them and I have no idea how to get it out. I guess I'll do nothing as I'd hate to get AiptasiaX on the zoas. Hopefully my peppermints will get it without messing with the zoas!

Fish are going back in DT tonight I think. I had to wait on some more flatworm exit so I could blast the tank one more time before putting fish back in it. I may move all but the Goldhead Goby back in as I have a bunch of corals on the sandbed now that he would cover up. I feel bad banishing him to the QT for life though so I may get soft and just put him in too. We'll see. Hopefully I'll have some successful updates tomorrow!

I really like the top one, and I'm pretty excited to see some fish pics! Sweet corals lyle!

If you get aiptasia x, you turn off all your pumps for 15 minutes. The water is still, you squirt just a little directly on it, and your zoas wouldn't be harmed!

yeah I have a syringe and was thinking about turning everything off and letting them settle...then brush the zoas with my finger to close them up and then when the aiptasia pops out again trying to poke him with the syringe. as soon as he's melted i'd blast the zoas with a turkey baster to get all the aiptasiaX off of them. these are pretty special zoas though so I want to make sure I don't hurt them in any way. I checked last night though and the tiny aiptasia is literally growing ON one of the polyps. and it's stalk is the size of a small nail...like 1-2mm...gonna be tough.

MOVING DAY!

I'm looking at getting a Purple Dottyback, 2 Firefish, a trio of Bartlett's Anthias, and a Whitecheek Tang. Do you guys think they would all be fine with my Clarki Clown, trio of Blue Chromises, Red Scooter blenny, Hawkfish, and Goldhead Gobie? The Goldhead may be moved again to the QT but I didn't have the heart to leave him in there last night. If he's messing up my low corals smothering them in sand I can easily trap and move him later. I was also thinking about getting a pair of Cardinals. Does this sound like too much or compatibility issues?

so I decided to calibrate my pH probe the other night and ever since my pH has been dropping. i just got an alert that it's at 7.9 and I've been right around 8.2 for several months. i'm wondering if maybe the probe is bad. i know...i need a good pH test kit.

questions: 1. how long do these pH probes typically last? 2. could my system really be losing pH like that at this point? I continue to run kalk in my ATO. maybe not enough? I can't imagine my stock list of coral is taxing my calc/alk this much already to where i'd need a calc reactor or anything...but maybe? 3. any advice on the best pH test kits I could probably pick up at LFS?
