Hello every one I'm new to reef central.... I have a 55 gal FOWLR for 7 months now... I have 2 false perc clowns, 1 Pygmy angel, 1 green chromi,1 diadema dottyback, chocolate starfish, and a lyretail anthias... My concern is that for the past 2 weeks the anthias has stop swimming like she use to and lying around in the rock and sand bed.... This morning I notice that half her face is some what reddish...I've had her for abt 2 months and she has been eating fine she even ate last night.... This is my first fish tank and I have no idea what to do.... Any input and advice is welcome...

Sorry, not much to go on and I haven't got a clue.Although Lyretails are a fairly easy anthias; anthias are still tough fish to keep. Our forum has frequent reports of people losing these fish. They need lots of room and a very mature tank. I'd wait until you have some more time in the hobby and a bigger tank before you get another anthias.

Sounds like a bouyancy issue and those make me think first an internal infection of the swim bladder effecting the gas exchange mechanism. Other things I think possible are ion exchange problems at the gills or GI absorption problems. A kidney or liver infection might do the same. Is it possible to catch the fish and look at the gills? They should be pink and even. If red and ripped up or really white might have parasites causing damage and osmotic compromise or anemia. Makes me wonder if the red on the face may be either from spreading infection or irritation or from the fish scratching. Getting skinny? Maybe GI parasites. All of these could be treated accordingly.

I've fixed bouyancy issues in 3 anthias simultaneously with erythromycin baths, but those anthias were hyper bouyant with their caudal dorsal fins at the surface. In this case I'm guessing they had a gram positive internal infection.
