Majanos Gone Wild!

unable to search.

Can I get a quick re-cap of what fish may prey on Majanos? and your experiences with them in a mixed reef aquarium.

Racoon Butterfly fish is one I recall, but also likely to prey on feather dusters and maybe xenia?

I have neglected my tank for a while now and my standing population of majanos on the back wall has increased and now also there are some encroaching on a few corals.

I'll bust out the magnum cannister and suck the ones off the back wall best as I can and then mop up with some joe's juice the ones in rocks near corals.

Is aiptasia and mojanos the same thing? If so...

Berghia verrucicornus - Aiptasia eating Sea slugs ...
Copper Band Butterfly- 50/50 of it destroying corals...
Joes Juice

Good Luck

Sam

Majanos and Aiptasia are not the same thing.

based on past experience, the copperband is ineffective against majanos. The Berghia are obligate feeders on the aiptasia only.

Joe's Juice does work against majanos when you just have a few or a small area.

Joes worked for me... but I only had 20 or so. The ones I couldnt get ended up cooking in the sun for a while :)

Maybe not so good for an infestation, however, I have known people to get rid of them by boiling RO/DI water and while it is still hot, squirt it (syringe) onto & into the crown. They scrape off easily after that.

yesterday, I took a couple hours to do a water change and majano removal. I shut down main pump and powerheads, and hooked up my magnum cannister. Most of the majanos I had were on the back glass, so I scraped a few off at a time and sucked them up in the magnum. I estimated about 60-80 were in the cannister when I cleaned it out afterwards.
The few here and there in rocks, corals, etc I just nuked with some joe's juice.
I see this morning there are a few I missed, but a re-application of JJ's should fix them.

I am sure I will not get them all, and in another few months, I'll notice their numbers building again.

Damn, with the new Kegorator you got, I think you could whip up a Majano-removal possie of about 20 guys in half hour flat!
:D
Problem is, then I recon you'd have to whip up a "wipe-the-drunken-bastards-off-the-floor" possie soon there after!...then another possie to wipe them off the floor.....
Hmmmm, kind-of-a-dilemma ya'd have there

No can do on the RAP III planning meeting tonight.

I have to practice tonight with my nephew for my other hobby club, http://www.d2isc.com/calendar.htm, as we have a competition next saturday in Cypress.

That, and the fact that my mistress Cassandra (my kegorator with cold draft Heineken) would not understand the time away from her tonight.

give 'em hell on my behalf ReefMeister!

Thanks G-Carroll ! that's what I thought on the racoon butterfly, but not sure I am willing to take the chance lest he might take a tasty liking to some of my softies.
