M. Setosa care ??'s

I got a small frag of M. Setosa the other day. Its doing fine so far, but I just want to see what other people are doing, as far as flow and lighting. Is it a higher light coral or a little less? Right now I have it pretty high in the tank, but it is slighty shaded by my return locline. But its still a high light area of the tank I would say. And does it prefer high flow or moderate? Its a great color, and really want it to do well. Any pics of anybody's would be cool to see. Thanks.

I have mine under T-5's, middle of my tank and shade by branches of Ora stuber Acro. I have maybe medium flow to it. I think the Setosa is a low light coral...mine is creamy red/orange.

I think its a lower light SPS also. That is why I put it under the return lines so it was sort of shaded. But I am thinking it may still be to bright. I have 2-150w Radiums, and 2-39w Ati Blue+.

I have mine in a 100g RR, center medium height. The highest point of my aquascape is about mid level of the tank, and its placed at the highest point. Running 8x54w T5's 10hrs/day. Penductors on my return + 2x1300gph powerheads create tons of flow.

Still a very slow grower but I've experienced great color, growth and PE. Colored has lightened up a bit into a pastel red since I started Zeovit some 3-4 months back, but I'm happy with it.

Only issue I'm battling now with the Setosa is hydroids have affected it...Aarrghhh!!!

That stinks about the Hydroids. That seems like a good amount of light, and its doing well you say. So I think I'm good were its at as far as light. I have a MP20 and a K3 in my 65g. But it is almost dead center of the tank and towards the back, kind of blocked by the overflow. But its still in a pretty good flow area.

Low middle of my tank. It is pretty hearty and grows very quickly for me. White line on it is where I fragged a chunk off.

Probably 2 to 3 years I think. I got it from Tyree at a coral farmers market when it was still the "hot coral". Probably fragged it 20-30 times since then at least.

Nice, I think its a great looking coral. I can't wait for mine to grow out a bit. The color is very unique I think. You don't see many others with a color quite like that. I also like the way it grows out.

I think I bleached mine placing it too high. It actually turn from that awesome deep orange into pink it's recovering now at the bottom of my tank. Overdriving 6T5's on normal sized 90gallon tank. 2XMP40.

Nice pic Cato. So everyone seems to have it toward the bottom half, maybe I will find a new spot a bit lower in the tank. And maybe a little less flow. It seems that the polyps that are sheilded are extended more.

bottom of my old tank - lit by ATI powermodule - about 20" underwater and under a center brace. I also had it about 20" under 20K 400W halides with similar results. Pretty easy coral, as Bryan stated above.

Love that quote and nice tank:fish2:

mine is a nice pinkish orange, sits just above the sandbed in a Tech90 under an ATI fixture. grows at a pretty nice pace for me, at least it was until i dropped a rock on it this past weekend and created a bunch of little frags.

Interesting, I have mine about 15 inches underneath 2x250 12k Reeflux MH and with medium flow, granted that there is a little extra shading due to the centerbrace in the tank but it has the signature orange color good polyp extension and has gone from a 1 inch frag to a totally encrusted and multiple branches in about 2 months.

Well, mine has about quadrupled in size and sits directly under my 14k 250w MH. It's on the upper third of my tank with lights 8" off the water. So, I guess it's versatile enough to adapt to whatever ;)

i also have it high up in my tank under 250 MH pheonix bulbs, with medium flow, very good PE and color on mine
