MACNA is Coming! MACNA is Coming

So if I was to pack some corals nicely in the coolers you will be selling and then check them in at the airport I cant imagine there would be any problem would there?
As far as TSA or rough handling, I guess a popped bag is possible, has anyone taken coral on an airplane before with checked baggage?
Chris

If I was going to ship corals home from this Macna I would have a small coral shipping box on hand. The one that have the styrofoam box and lid, inside of a cardboard box like the industry uses. The more corals you plan on getting the bigger the box. I would have extra packing available and some good packing tape. Then on Sunday when I got ready to leave, I would pack up my corals in the individual bags, making sure the vendors double bagged them. Pack them up snuggly in the coral boxes, add any extra packing needed to make sure they are tightly packed. Tape up the cardboard box very well, put my name all over it. And then check the box as luggage. That is about as good as anyone can do and in most cases I would think everything would be okay.

Assuming the airlines won't balk at boxes filled with bags of saltwater (fluids are a no-no as carry on currently), if MARSH can have the boxes with styrofoam cooler inside, they could sell them to those that need them. I don't think the soft bag will work when checked as luggage.

Those bags are $20 each, btw. I know I'm getting one.

o.k. maybe I will snag a nice box with styro at my LFS inside will be all the supplies, send it with my baggage to houston, that way its all there for me and if it gets mangled then I guess I wont bring anything back with them!

I haven't read this whole thread, but I was hoping there was a complimentary shuttle provided by the hotel from Bush. Does anyone know?

There isn't one provided, the one that did went out of business or something.

Sorry for the inconvience.

oh yeah and by the way. if you see a guy there wearing a backwards and to the side black SF GIANTS cap with the end of the bill bent straight up, thats me!

My cousin and I will be there from thurs-sun , Were staying at the Westin , Hope its a nice hotel they charged me 290 for the room on thursday and the other 2 days i got the macna deal .
The only thing im worried about is bringing back any corals or fish , Anyone know anything about checking in a cooler at the terminal? If not im going to have to do the wet paper towel thing.
Cant wait to meet some hardcore reefers there .

Hopefully small cooler-lined boxes will be available so you can pack your livestock well, and check it as luggage. I've done it that way in the past, and I've carried it on. Both ways work, but I feel better as a carry on. Due to the terrorist plot in London last month, that may not be an option this year. I don't know the answer as of this date.

Fortunately for once, I'm driving so I don't have to contend with it, but I've still been thinking about this for all those flying in.

We are going to have our collapsible coolers with the printed fish and writing on them and we will also have some insulated stryo box's.

I am not sure when you booked your room, but the Westin has been sold out since last week or the week before, especially on Thursday since Hewlett Packard is practically taking over the city. As for the Sheraton Suites, we should still have some room available on Thursday at our rate. Thurs is filling up fast there too, which is also thanks to HP. Friday-Sunday nights are good, it is just Thursday that is the problem. I recommend booking soon because we can't guarantee our rate since last week.

If have any questions, please call or email me.

Thats weird I booked westin from thursday till saturday and got the $129 rate all 3 nights, I did book a few months ago though. I am worried about getting a room though, I have been bumped by hotels before, especially when its a sold out deal. Good thing is I booked direct, I guess the problems in the past were through hotels.com and maybe thats where the problems are?

I wouldn't be worried about being bumped when you book directly through the hotel.
