MACNA XIX - Sept 14 - 16 - Who's going?! (And what it is)

It trips me out that this is the 'big' conference in the US... considering the size of the industry here you would think it would be huge. Some of the lesser known conferences in Germany alone draw 2000 people easily.

Maybe because they don't have to travel as far or for as much money, they can do it. The public transportation system is so much better in Europe.

While there are 1000s of hobbyists in the U.S., you don't find their desire to attend MACNA mainly because they don't understand what it is like - yet. :) I've seen posts over the years about "if it was over near my area, I'd go." The fact is, unless it is within a few hours' drive, no matter where it is you have travel expenses and hotel accommodations to pay for. The experiences and the knowledge you come home with is well worth those expenses, imho.

And even those that are local don't necessarily grasp what a treasure they have nearby. Which is why threads like these are posted. Hopefully they'll see it and decide to give it a shot. For them, they only have to worry about the entry fee because they can drive home each evening. Which is exactly what I did when MACNA was here on Fort Worth in 2002. A LFS in Calfornia asked me if I was going, and I explained that I didn't see what the big deal was nor did I want to spend the $150 to attend. I figured I could get LR with that money.

Fortunately I decided to attend, and the rest is history. Everyone can be just like me. :D :D :D

Many of the people attending these conferences in the EU are from all around the world... Japan through South America... makes you wonder.

I've never been to one over there, so I really can't say. Heck, I can't figure out why more over here don't go. ;)

Marc, you gotta quit bumping this thread! Why dilute the raffles any further? ;) :D

Misled: We'll definately be checking out that incline. That is sweet! Is it open on Sundays? We won't be leaving until Monday morning and MACNA's over at 2 p.m. so we'll have plenty of time to get over there Sunday afternoon if they're open.

If you want to make a trip out in the evening, it runs quite late. There's also a few clubs and sports bars in Station Square.

Hours of Operation:

[05:30 through 00:45 Eastern Time]

What's the hours of the trade show? What time do the doors open and close?

Here's a link to the schedule from MACNA's website, by trade show I think it is whats in the Exhibition Hall.

But that's just my opinion. I've never been to one of these things!!!

I will say the view from top of Mount Washington is beautiful at night. The incline is really neat to see how it works and was made.

They have a Mount Washington in Pennsylvania? That's funny - I never knew that. You'd think such a Mount would exist either in Washington D.C. or Washington state. :)

I lived on Mt. Washington for a few years. It used to be called "coal hill" due to the large coal mine that was on the hill (circa 1760's). Almost eveyr skyline view of the city that people are familiar with is taken from grandview avenue (the street that skirts the front edge of Mt. Washington).

I guess I should add: Some of the city's best dining is on Mt. Washington (with a beautiful view of the city). Some of you that are extending your stay or coming in early will certainly want to check them out. Steaks, seafood, etc.
