Macro algae question

I have caulerpa, sea grass, green grape, sea lettuce, blue ochtodes. Also have a purple sea whip and an orange tree sponge. This is in my 10g dwarf seahorse tank

I grow 2 varieties of halymenia, multiple caulerpas, blue ochtodes, halimeda, violet dreams, red bush, and red palm. A lot of them are hard to grow with seahorses, b/c they rip off the macroalgae with their tails and I have to reattach them. Some of them like really high flow too, which makes things more complicated.

I've heard of people feeding them like newborn copepods, but other then that i wouldnt think so as they would be to big for them to eat. Most people just stick with feeding dwarf seahorses enriched brine shrimp.

Hi, I dont mean to hijack the post but I am doing a little research on seahorses and was wondering what the macro algea in the tank is good for? Do they eat it or use it to grab onto? Sorry for the silly question.

The macroalgae acts as something attractive and natural for the seahorses to hold onto, as well as helps filter the excessive nutrients (nitrates, phosphates, etc) and organic compounds out of the water.

For long term sucess, it is better if you varied their diet. You will be surprise the size of prey a dwarf can take down.

I have some small shaving brush in mine. Very funny, the seahorse was wrapped around the base and jerking around oddly, then I figured out he was scratching his back on the top! Kind of like your dog rolling on the rug.

I was just about to ask this very same question! Thanks for the info - I am guessing that the macro algae would be the same for dwarf and non-dwarf seahorses?
Also is it okay to put plastic/cloth plants in there from the pet store or is it best to stay away from them as they don't add much except for atmosphere and stick with the live plants?
