Macro lens recommendations for Canon EOS digital??

Zooming in with telefoto is not cutting it any more... i can get some beautiful full tanks with 35mm, but feel that the 6.3 megapixels are wasted without macro!

Interested in buying a macro lens for my Canon EOS digital, anyone have any recommendations?

Im torn between EF-S-60mm and the EF 100 from canon...

Is there a noticeable benefit to the "s" series lenses?

Also, is 100mm preferable to the 60mm for distance from subject?

And last quick question, white balance for Canon EOS Digital, should i use one, two, three coffee filters over lens? white aragonite is OK but i think i can do better.

Thanks for any info.

here is tank, 90G

The "s" is meant for the smaller sensors on the Canons. Which means you cannot use those lenses on a full frame sensor camera. As far as I know only the EOS 30D, EOS 350D, and earlier EOS 20D and 300D models can use the EF-S lenses.

As in investment, youd probably want the 100mm just in case you ever upgrade your camera to one that has a full frame sensor or decide to sell the lens for whatever reason. Rumor has it that future Canon cameras will all eventually have full frame sensors.

I dont have a recommendation on the lenses since I dont have experience with either one but I have a the Rebel XT and plan on buying the 100mm lens just for the above reason.

Coffee filters... Use how ever many that look best to you. Trial and error. :) I think using a 18% grey card would be ideal, though.
I dont know if the 300d has this feature but in the XT, you can adjust the colors under the WB Shift function. Handy for fine-tuning the colors.

I would suggest avoiding the S lenses designed specifically for cropped sensors in case you decide to upgrade to one of the full frame bodies at some point. I have the 100mm f2.8 and love the sharpness and bokeh. It works well as a macro but also takes great non-macros as well. What is your budget and do you plan on taking non-tank macros?

yeah the 100mm is within budget, but i have a 35-50mm and a 75-175 telephoto already for non macros...
just want a awesome macro lens for under 500.

Thats like saying "I want an awesome car for under 18k." You'll get something decent, but probably not as awesome as you'd like.
