Macro lighting???

I'm guessing that color temperature matters little to chaeto, so long as its visible light on the EM scale - you're probably more interested in power/intensity.

mine grows well under a 6500k spiral PC bulb. used to have two bulbs but one burned out and i'm too cheap to buy another just yet. :) the color is a crisp white with a tint of blue when they're first out of the package, and there's a noticable change in appearance (less blue and more yellow) after 5-6 months of use.

i also use a 3700k bulb on another tank with chaeto...the chaeto isnt as thick under the 3700k bulb, but it does grow as fast if not faster than the bunch under the 6500k bulb.

Just for a simple easy to get light that makes my macro grow well I use this bulb from Home Depot.

how long does yours last before you notice a significant change in the light spectrum??

I just throw a new one on every 6-7 months. I really don't pay that much attention to it. I don't think it's that big of a deal.

My refugium area with the one bulb is about 18"x 20".
I have two over a area 24"x 24".
I use the clip-on metal reflector from home depot.
