Madagascar clownfish (A. latifasciatus)

Has anyone ever had one of these?
There may be an opportunity to get some fish from Madagascar and I'm trying to figure out what is interesting there.
 
Sorry for the site didnt know it was blocked but it says a wild cought pair would most likely run 5k. That was in june of this year
 
A few folks have had them over the years. Did not seem to be as touchy through QT as A. chrysopertus based on RC posters.

Don't recall them ever being available in a volume to support the "clown collector" demand and most folks did not appreciate the difference between them and $8.99 juvenile A. clarkii.

Finding the shipments as you described and hoping a few specimens piggy back along with the imports that make it profitable is how a few of us got our more exotic specimens.

Well, a local importer plans on going there and bring some fish back so I could probably get some cherry picked latifasciatus and other species from there.

Amphiprion latifasciatus seems to be actually quite attractive. It seems to be somewhere between A. allardi and A. omanensis with yellow fins all around and the the filamented tail fin.
 
If memory serves me right, there are atleast 3 different color variants of latisfasciatus. Each is distinct from different parts of it's natural distribution.
 
Wow just saw 2 of them on ebay that didnt sell even at $250 ea.

Maybe some people dont think there is to big of a diff. between the clarki and these but i actually like the look of them

To me it would make a difference as they are clearly different. They are also very specific in their anemone choice (S. mertensii).

Unfortunately 99% of the people in this hobby are uneducated, ignorant or just don't care about the subtle differences.

I had a crysogaster before and also several clarkii varieties. The crysogaster was clearly a very different fish, not just in look but also in behavior. I expect the same with all the African species as they form a distinct and isolated subgroup within the clownfish species.

Even the different clarkii varieties looked and behaved quite differently, what leads me to believe that we are actually dealing with several species or at least sub-species that are lumped together under A. clarkii. In my opinion the large distribution range and that A. clarkii is reputedly found in all host anemones supports this.

Yes, they behave quite differently from their similar brothers. Chrysogaster is my favorite species to date, although nigripes have a nice pound or pound personality in second :)

No clue on how latifasciatus would compare, but I am looking forward to you sharing your experience with them :)
 
I have three tank raised ones. There is a guy in Illinois that raised a batch or two. Really nice fish. I have had them for a few weeks now. I am not sure what region they are from but I should be able to find out.
