Made a bet with my wife today.

When you start freaking out take a moment to INHALE really deep just like you do when you are taking that first drag in the morning. Then do it a few more times. It really helps with the stress you are feeling. (I realized that was the only time I really did any deep breathing!) Remind yourself that you won't die, even if it feels like you will. And think in threes: first three days are the worst, then much better. Three weeks and you quit obsessing; three monthes and you will be enjoying that tank - and wondering why you ever smoked in the first place!

Good luck! My fiance was a smoker for 15 years when I met him. He smoked about 3 packs a day. We were friends for a while, and then he asked me out and wanted to take our relationship to the next level, but I refused until he quit smoking. I've lost a lot of people in my family to cigarettes, and I was not about to set myself up to go through that with a person I could possibly end up spending the rest of my life with.

He quit cold turkey, and hasn't smoked in 3 years. In the meantime, he has saved thousands of dollars, food tastes better and different than it ever did before, and now he's stuck with me, hahahaha.

The first few weeks were the worst for him. But you have to hang in there and stick with it. Once you get past that initial hump, it only gets easier from there. I know it sounds cliche, but it does get easier the longer you hold your ground. The cravings will go away with time. You just have to keep in mind the things you are working for!

Update.
Day1- 5 cigarettes

Day2- 3 cigarettes

Day3- 0 cigarettes

Im gonna win this time. I QUIT

Its been really hard but it seems to get a little better everyday. As you can see I slipped a couple times the first couple days but Im strong now. 30 - 35 to 0 in 3 days is pretty good though. Did it all with out any quitting aids or meds, just sunflower seeds and a little bit of suffering. Thanks to everyone for all the tips and words of encouragement. Carlos, I cant wait man. What do you think 5 ft or 6 ft?

Good luck, Aquaph8. I never smoked as much or as long as you, but when I quit, I suffered through a month of coughing fits that woke me in the middle of the night. It's a hard road, but well worth the venture.

Thanks guys. It feels good playing with my kids without having to take a smoke break. Im sure my body is gonna make me pay for the 14 years of smoking but better out than in. I love keeping that $15 in my pocket in the morning. I ate a lot of sunflower seeds today.

It got so I could put a handfull of in-shell seeds on one side of my mouth, split the shell and eat the seed, then move the empty shells to the other side! :)

I have a 180 gal. (72 x 24 x 24) and wish it were 36 wide instead of 24.
Personally, I'd go with the 6 footer in case you want swimmin' room for tangs.
Wider (36") would make for some awesome aquascaping, and anything taller than 24" would be too tall IMHO. I would even consider 20-22 instead. It would be easier to illuminate and to maintain.

rooting for ya aqua! sunflower seeds are the best, before you know it your gonna be posting about breaking the addiction to the seeds! haha I ALWAYS have a pack of ranch seeds in my car.. mmmm..

and come on a riddler chalice! lets go aqua!!! lol

Johnny, your on man LOL. I'll make it a year for you though. Thanks for your support Aaron im gonna have to try those ranch seeds tomorrow. Everyone thanks so much for all the support, it really means a lot to me. This could easily be one of the hardest things I've had to do.

I said I'd never post on rc again, but for this its worth it.

Brett, you can do this man! When you set up that new tank I'll have a couple of cherries waiting for ya.

I don't know you, but I wish you the best of luck with everything. My brandmother smoked for like 50 years, then she saw some pics of anti tobacco stuff, and she hasn't smoked since. You can do it!

Yeah I bet you can't wait. I'd be super excited. 5ft or 6ft, hmm"¦.honestly, it really depends on your preference. A 5x3 will look more like a cube BUT it will be easier to light. I know you were saying you wanted to try T5's on the new tank, and with that, I know that the bulb selection is more diverse with a 48" fixture (which would be fine on a 5' tank) as appose to a 60" fixture. Then again I think a 6x3 will look a 120 on steroids! What I mean is, a tank that is half wide as it is long has the visual effect of being larger even if it's not. I think the 6x3 will be more pleasing to the eye, but it may be a PITA to light. Decisions, decisions, I wish mine were this difficult

Three 250 watt halides would shadow the front and back panels slightly, retarding algae growth on the glass!

If I start smoking again, and quit again, you think I could get away with a new tank?

JK :D

It will be worth it without a new tank! Thats just icing on the cake.
Just never smoke again.

Good Luck!

Agreed. MH's are most likely the best solution, but I think he wants to try T5's on the new tank. With that considered"¦.I still don't know what I would do lol!
