I decided to try my hand at DIY rock. I followed the recipe over here.

Turned out pretty good so far. It will be interesting when the salt is cured out of it.

You better find a few people who will let you cure it in their toilet tanks for a few months.

I am going to do this to a few I want right away and the rest will be tub cured. I am really interested to see what happens when the salt starts melting out during the curing. There is 80# of rock salt in those rocks. Around a 3:1 ratio of salt to cement. I am hoping they turn out like batch number 3 in the thread. Nice and lightweight.

I'm doing well. the car is operational but needs to get into the shop, they told me a week ago that they ordered the parts with overnight delivery. Overnight must mean something totally different in the automotive body industry.

I was watching a thread in the DIY about homemade rock the other day, looks like were on the same page.

It kinda looks like poo.

It should look pretty sweet covered in purple though.

Good price too.

How easy was this, I know I'm going ot make some for my 75 gal, but I want like 60# of DIY and 40-50 of brand new LR. So all the extra will be sold off depending on the mood i'm in.

Great looking rock, any special tips you'd give a guy like me on doing that?

Josh

It was easy but messy. I can't believe the guy from the original thread mixed it in his apartment!

As far as tips make the Portland cement mix really dry. These are free form rock and the mix has to be stiff enough to stand up on its own. It was pretty easy.
