Mag Drive 5 or 7

I'm setting up a 75 gallon aqueon with the built in overflow. Looking for a return pump from the sump. Right now I'm considering either a Mag Drive 5 or 7. What would you recommend? Would you not recommend either of these and go with a different pump all together?

With the height I'll be lifting the water, I'm guessing that the 5 will give around 320gph versus the 7 which would give 450gph.

Thanks!

I'll have an eheim 1262 on my 75g. same height. I would go with the 7. Put a gate valve after the pump so you can adjust to your liking.

If you decide you don't like one and want the other the only difference is the impeller. So for $10 (maybe) you can convert a 5 into a 7 or a 7 into a 5. IIRC the difference between the 3 and the 5 is the cover.

This would just be for a return from my sump. The flow will be primarily from either two koralia 1050's or one 1050 and one mp10

Mag 7 for sure. I run a Mag 5 on my 40B and it is just right, it would be a little small for a 75g. You will want more than one MP10 in a 75. A MP40 and a 1050 would better.

Eheim is a better pump but that will also cost you another 70 or 80$ why? I like my mag its quiet and I bet you it will out last that eheim. Its a freaking work horse. I love it. I have a eheim on my frag tank and for a 100.00 $ its not impressive by any means. just syaing.

I bought my 1262 eheim brand new for $120 shipped off RC dry goods selling!! Don't have to buy from a dealer.

Korrine, I'm unable to use that link. It may be because I'm still new to the site?... Are there certain things that I can't do until I've had XXX posts or something?

The only difference between the 3 and 5 is the watts Mag 3 is 35 Mag is 45, impellers and cover is the same.

an eheim 1250 would work great, and i bought one for 45 off dry goods section this week.

I've had 2x mag 18's, a mag 9, mag 7, mag 3.5, and they all inevitably lock up or break. I've ditched them all and run eheim's. I use a 1260 as a return on a 300 g DD.
