Mag Garden

I'm interested in the article or publication that proposes aggression with non clonal nems. I'm currenrly keeping four strains of bta and would like to learn more about it on a technical level.

Here's a video of two members of the same species going at it.

Those dont look like hosting anemones to me.

In general i think hosting anemones dont fight within their own species. I have never seen two bubble tips go at it.

I know lots of people with mags with two different color bases living next to each other.

Proof

Proof

I think this is further proof that what i am dealing with is a bunch of clones. Also after seeing Check out this candy stripe. Obviously the result of a wild split and healing.

Also after seeing another picture i now can also identify the white dots on my mags. Butterflyfish bites. Im gonna see if i can copy a pic and post it here from the wild. Now i know why mags have such tough thick skin on their bases and also explain balling as a defense.

I am so jealous! I have 3 LFS looking for a red based mag for me for almost a year with no luck and you come up with 3 of them!
They look good and please continue to post pics and info on their progress.
Thanks for sharing!

reef vette,

Are they red based? they just look like brown bases but i know cameras can be tricky with colors. Also what does your LFS do to these things that the are soo bleached when they come in?

At least your giving them a good home!

They look red to me but i was told they will darker up to a Chestnut color with red in it like auburn.

The LFS doesnt really keep anemones, they order one for a customer and were mistaking sent 10. The guy knows i collect anemones so he asked me if i wanted to buy the 4 he had left. At first i declined and he sold 1 more.

I got rid of my blue haddoni and bought the other three. They all have white lines on them from a split and they all hang out pretty close. Im assuming they are all from the colony since they were collected together.

I will take more pics at lunch today when the lights are fully on.
