Mag Splitting?

I just went to check on my new H. mag in the QT and noticed what looks like a second mouth appeared. Is this the start of a split, or just an temporary distortion.

It's pretty tough to tell since it keeps folding over on itself.

It could very well be the start of a split. I had a magnifica split on me and both halves did well after the split.

Magnifica does not usually split like that. The do split with stress.
When my Magnificas split, several time over the years, they start to look bad, mouth dilated, then a hole developed on the foot. First sign cause me to know the split is for real when I start to see rock though the Magnifica's mouth. From there the hole get bigger and the side start to move apart. The Mag start to have a "O" shape, The next step happen when the "O" turn to a "C" when one of the side break. Then the other side break and there are two Magnifica without mouth. Then the two break started to heal and then there are two whole smaller Magnifica. I documented this in an old post on RC around 2002 or so. The server upgrade lost it and I was not able to find the old Photos.
Maybe somebody can document the whole process again. The next time my Magnifica split, I will try to document it.

My experience with Mags splitting is a bit different than OrionN's. I picked up a mag that was in the process of splitting. It already had two mouths and two feet, and formed a figure-8 where it essentially looked like two nems butted up against each, but were still connected. I waited a few months, and they never fully detached from one another. One day I decided to cut them apart, and both did fine (I ended up selling them).

Unfortunately, I can't find any good photos. Here's the only one I can find. As you can see, both sides have fully formed and functional mouths:

Mine split 3 times. One clone line slit twice and another completely different clone line split once. All three the same way. One of the tree division did not completely come apart. After 2 days I intervened. I put a fish line loop around the part that should come apart but did not and put (pull) pressure on it with an elastic rubber band. Overnight this induce the two halves to come apart. This was a long time ago. We (at least I) did not even know that Magnifica divided in captivity. I did not know if I should cut him apart. Now, I would take a knife to it and cut it apart like D-Nak. I think I was the first person who posted about this on RC back then. I gave two clones to two RC members at the time.

I can speculate that if I did not intervened, that anemone may heal like D-Nak Magnifica. Pure speculation on my part

I found some picture of one of the split of my Magnifica in 2003. He could not finish so I help him along a bit. You can see the hole in the anemone, in the "O" stage. I used rubble band to get the two haves separate. This help him finished divided the next day. I posted this on Reef Central also but the pictures was lost during on eof the upgrade. I am glad that I found my album at reefland.com
