NEW CORAL ADDED!

NEW CORAL ADDED!

Much thanks to the donor program, people getting out of the hobby, and my art/coral trade with D.G., I have TONS of coral in my tank now...so much that I don't have room for anymore..unless it's a plate coral or something that can be on the bottom. I'm serious about no more room.. which probably means I won't be able to do coral trades anymore, lol...there's always exceptions, though.

ANYway! Here are some pics of what the tank looks like now; the left side is completely chalk full of coral.. it's actually too crowded, but since I only have frags at this point, it's ok for now.

A FTS to start off with:

The "top shelf" of sps.. (can you spot the baby starfish left of the green slimer? it's so cute.. I wonder what it is; any ideas? it's grey/white and has six legs)

And last but not least, my new kryptonite candycane:

Thank you SO MUCH for my beautiful coral!

I think I see some orbs! Eeeeekkkk! She did get becursed!

The little starfish seems to be an Asterina. They only grow to about 1/2 inch and are harmless. Your tank looks great! You should be fragging soon.

fragging what?? all my corals are frags! lol..one of my mushrooms has multiplied a few times, but I only have like 5 (one small, two very small, and one just starting taking shape) Unless someone wants some gsp. And by orbs, i think you mean my coraline algae.. or the micro bubbles.. or just water in need of a change. ;)

I'm going to disagree with Sheryl on the value of the stupid asterina starfish. I have witnessed them eating some zoanthids - not all, but they definitely enjoyed some expensive ones I got from Dustin. I'd take it out by hand - there are surely more and they reproduce quickly.

I have them in my tank as well, I started pulling them out after my blue and green slimmers started to STN and i found one crawling on one of the frags. Looked it up on the net and they say most of the spieces are harmless, but some spieces eat zoas like stephanie said.

I have heard many stories like these. I used to think that the people were wrong and that the asterinas were just cleaning up the already dead stuff. I really didn't mind the white patches on the coralline. But, like I said I had a really nice frag of zoas - about 5 polyps, and I watched them disappear one by one. I moved them around and one morning, I watched one of the asterinas move towards the frag and climb on a polyp. I then got a Harlequin shrimp. I loved that guy and I think they are a great addition to a tank, but you really need to ahve a big enough tank to support one - they are obligate feeders and they only eat the tiny feet on starfish. One LFS recommended I get (very cheaply from them) a chocolate chip starfish and freeze it. Then feed the shrimp a leg at time.

thanks for the info.. it's still on the same rock when I left for work this morning. So should I take it out? I haven't noticed any problems with my zoas..but that's not to say I won't. Would anything eat it that's already in my tank? (like if i were to toss it into the anemone? lol) I hate taking out live things and throwing them in the garbage. =/

thanks! :)

btw, i wasn't able to get the starfish out yet and now i notice that i have two.. O_o and it seemed like it was growing from a broken one or something.. everything disproportional and such.. am i in trouble?

where there is one, there are many... keep pulling them. They can reproduce by dropping a leg.

More to come later...

No more clown... I made a decision that's been long overdue; my clown was being a biatch to everyone in the tank--especially new additions--so I finally took her out over the weekend. It was hard since she was my very first fish when I started this hobby, but I feel better about it.

Since the clown is gone now, my anemone has taken up to sleeping like that every night. I got up this morning to it even more balled up than that--reminded me of a belly button.

I'm seeing more of my neon dottyback, Djin, and hopefully the new coral beauty angelfish I got on Friday will start venturing out from under the wavemaker.
