what is the proper level for Mg? ive read between 1250-1350 which one is better? and other than Ca control factor, do i need Mg. suplement if i use Instant Ocean salt?

The last bucket of IO i got had a Mag level of 1250. I like to run my Mag @1350. Approx. 3 x Calcium. I use ESV to maintain Mag.

you do need to test for Mg.
Ca/Alk and Mg all work together. as mg426 said your Mg should be 3x's your Ca

i guess Salifert is gonna get $25.00 again. thanx, thats kinda what i figured. lol! ive never been concerned about Mg levels, but now more than ever i see alot of members recommending Mg. test kits. im gonna check out PatMayo's (site) info. BRB REEF-ON!!!

mbbuna, i was asking same question. now i know now it should be 3xCa level. starting 70g mixed, second time. first time was ice storm fatality. no power, four days, with temp about 22f. no generater, lost 11 yrs. of life in that tank. first reef. REEF-ON!!!

ouch! after a recent power outage here(4 hours), i went and bought a cheap generator just for the tank. $100 to save $2500 in those just in case moments. great thing is the generator is small enough to take anywhere, camping, fishing, cook outs at the park, even when i go racing with the RC cars.
