There are several models of magnet depending on glass thickness. The 6105.515 would be comparable in hold to the 6080.500, the 6205 would normally have included a 6205.500. You would also need the 6065.650 clamp.
I guess ultimately I'd replace the 6080.500 magnets with the newer style. Preferably the newest silence clamp and such. Glass thickness is 1/2". Just wondering which one is the best choice and approximate cost of the upgrade.
Second question: Would two 6205's on a 7095 controller but complete overkill for a 4x2x2 120g? Mostly soft/LPS corals now, with eventual addition of some SPS.
Yes, it would be overkill. A better fit would be two 6095s. If you plan to move to SPS-only, or maybe to a larger tank, then two 6105s with the wide-flow housing would also work very well.
Hmm, well part of the reasoning behind getting the 6205's (besides the good deal on them) was to buy now with an eventual upgrade to a larger tank in mind.
Can the 6205's be dialed down enough to work on the 120 or perhaps just run one of them on it?
I would run two pumps and alternate which one is on. I agree with Craig, even the 6105's could handle a 180 without any problems. If you already have the pumps, you can use a controller to turn them down as needed.
I already have one of the pumps, with the intention of getting the other. (buying used) But, with the addition of the second pump I will also be using a 7095 controller to help throttle them down.
