Magnet Holders.... bit disappointed

Hi,

I bought two sets of these magents today, and I have to say for the 50 pounds sterling I was left very disappointed.

Perhaps I am being stupid ... but they seem to provide no means to mount the stream higher than 3 inches below the pelmit.

I tried to use the previous ladder mount... but to no avail.

Also.... why can the mount not have a 3rd dimension added to it - as I would like to point the streams at any other angle other than perpendicular to the glass.?

Asthetically.. it would be nice to have a prettier looking back ;) (Without the writing )

JMO

thanks

We intentionally avoid up and down range of motion to prevent stirring up the sand bed and causing a potential disaster. Unfortunately their is no foul proof swivel that could completely avoid this problem. A Stream less than 3" from the surface will take in air from the surface.

Roger,

Thanks for your reply.

I am stunned that a suitable swivel mount could not be developed.... Not even in titanium???? (I know its expensive)

I have a couple of pics.. but cannot upload here:-

This shows the way I have mounted my streams ..... it also gives you the height difference due to the different brackets.

Is this a problem perhaps only for Euro braced tanks / and hood/pelmit tanks?

Can the 3000.26 fit in to help? Can you make a vertical raiser perhaps?

Thanks for your help

They cost 60 pounds in Britain? That is a $34 magnet here so it is cheaper than cleaning magnets.

The height limit their is nothing I can do about, it is necessary for the magnet to have that shape to be stable. The problem with the swivel is not the material. It is the liability. Innevitably someone would not have a screw tightened and it would slip and blow the gravel into their prized clam and we would have a lawyers soap opera. That is the reason. Mechanically it is feasible, it could be done with plastic. It is just a liability issue, the same reason for all the warnings on the outside. If the magnets have sufficient strength you could probably insert a small plastic shim at the bottom between the magnet and the glass and get a few degrees of angle upward or downward for that matter. I would just use the rubber feet they provide but only on the top or bottom to achieve this.

As a DIY project you could try this- but you risk ruining the magnet. File off the holder bit of the magnet, Using Tangit glue the rail in place of the holder, but file the holder so you get a lot of area to glue and glue liberally and let it set up for 24hrs. Now you can get an up and down adjustment above the magnet holder.

Every product unfortunately involves a bit of compromise and to get the strength and stability we needed in as compact a package as possible we simply could not do anything else.

Roger,

Many thanks for your reply - its crakcing....

DIY it is..... I will give it a bash this w/e and get you some photos :)

Thanks again
