Magnifica anemone advice

I need some advice for my Heteractis magnifica I am at day two now and the deflating process has begun I had my LFS hold the guy for a week and a half and he stayed looking good the entire time. So now he is in my aquarium and starting to deflate so my question is should I add him to my quarantine tank now and treat him or give him another day I currently have amoxicillin, and the cipro arrives Monday I had to order it from Canada. I can't get the anemone off the rock he is on unless I persuade him to let go this is how he currently looks

u should take the rock with it and treat it in a separate tank. they r very difficult to remove from rock once attached.

I would like to but that rock is the size of a 10 gallon aquarium and my only qt tank are 10 and 20 and it won't fit in a 20 maybe I can put the anemone in a trash can or bin that is large enough to hold both?

trash bin is fine as long as its got flow and light. there is a sticky note by orion on this forum that has the protocol for treatment. good luck.

Thanks I've read the treatment protocols I will have the anemone in the bin today with flow and lights and heater do you know what the cipro will do to the live rock with the anemone will the rock need to be discarded once the treatment is done and it's time to introduce the anemone back to the aquarium I only have a handful of corals and all 2inch to 3 inch sps so not a huge investment I specifically set up this aquarium for a mag two years ago

LR is fine with treatment. You like to treat minimal amount of rock possible, because the treatment will change the bacterial population in the rock. Once you get the rock back to the aquarium it should recover fine. The antibiotic will break down quickly and will not affect the rock long term. The amount of cipro on the rock, if any, is minimal and will have no consequent to the tank biosystem. It will not affect the various animals on the rock. You will see starfish, worms survive fine in the rock.
I don't recommend full tank treatment because we will not know the long term affect of a broad spectrum antibiotic do to the bacterial population of a reef tank, but it cannot be good as we really rely on bacterial for filtration of our tank, not because Cipro will cause any problem with the animals.

Good luck

Thank you very much orion, could you possibly tell me if Fin Mox Forte is the same as cipro. I understand that amoxicillin and cipro are different yet in the end have the same goal.

The two antibiotics are different with different spectrum. Since I wrote the protocol several years ago it is a lot harder to get cipro without prescription. You can use Sentra instead. I think it is easier to obtain without prescription.

I already have fin Mox Forte but the main ingredient is amoxicillin . I also have clavamox. But I will look for sentra right now.

Thanks I still have a long way to go I had to add 5 more gallons of water to the trash can since she wanted to move higher up on the rock to get more flow so I have to up the dose tonight

I also added about 4 more rubber bands and another layer of filter for added protection

You will have to keep an eye on it and clean it. Normally one layer works fine over it.

Looking much better, and I'm sure it was crawling for more light, speaking of which I'm sure you may already know light makes cipro inert, so make sure you are dosing at night after lights out

Yes that was a picture after water change she always does better after water change then lights go out and i dose how much flow should be in the quarantine system I have the pp8 turned down so the tentacles barely move I didn't want her to be blasted around while I was at work. Can the lights be too intense for a H Mag. I've been running them at 70% intensity over my tank with great results lights are radion gen3 pros
