magnifica + pedal laceration in captivity

TBH I don't know much about this topic but I'm curious as to how often this occurs as a reproductive strategy in captivity? :reading:

Its just that someone is documenting this process with photos on our local forum & its happening with a magnifica he's had for several years. So I was curious about whether this is unusual in captivity or not?

I do know of someone who has experimented (successfully) with bilateral division on a mag but I'm not going to call them out in public.
I don't think this would be much of an issue if it's healthy and all it's needs are being met.

I would like to know more on the topic of pedal laceration. Please do post what you find. I would very much like to see mags repeatedly being propagated in captivity as E. quads are.

I don't know anything about this species assexually reproducing by pedal laceration. When my two original H. mags divided into the four I have now, several years ago, they looked similar to a BTA dividing. The mouth began to pull apart and I could see the live rock right through the mouth. Pics would be great.

I had one for 5 months that was about 12in and it split into two and they both died within 2 days after im not sure why nut it sucked.

i just discovered over the weekend a local fellow has a ritteri he has been cutting in half with...50% success. if i remember correctly, he acquired the original specimen and cut it in half. one survived the other perished. he waited for the half to heal and he cut it again with the same outcome: half survived, half died.

hes done this multiple times with his bubble tip propagation, but it was exciting hearing this sort of effort going into magnificas so close to me. i insisted he come here and also share his experiences but i think hes waiting to be a bit more successful....
