Can too much light cause this anemone to deflate? It looks good most of the day. Last two hours of light and it deflates, then in the morning looks good again.

How long have you had it? new to the tank maybe, mine did that right after i put him in my tank, and then one day i guess he adjusted and stopped doing that and looked fine.

Yes ! Be very careful with light with this species. Although it is often quoted that they like strong lighting, they can have too much, too soon. I would try either raising the lights or shielding with netting just like you would with corals.

How long have you had it? I'm going on my 4th week with mine. Last week it deflate it, but it's recovering and it looks better. I did 2 water changes that seem to have helped. Everyone else.. how long have you had yours?

I have had mine about 5-6 weeks. It is deflating daily. I have a current t5 fixture with 12 36" bulbs. The reason I think the light is affecting it is because he only deflates after the lights have been on for about 5 hours. I have my timer set for 4pm-12am.
I think that I will try cutting the on time down by an hour or two and shield some of the light over the anemone.
Thank you for all input.

Still have the daily deflation. I have cut the on time of the light down and shaded the area over the anemone. It still deflates and it is starting to deflate in 2-3 hours time of the lights being on. I shut the light off and he spruces right up. He is back to normal in a couple of hours. Any other suggestion or advice would be appreciated.

it is perfectly normal for mags to purge themselves, if you do not do a WC for a long time, when you do the next one they will more than likely purge daily for a few days. Mags are normal to have an open mouth unlike other species.

This statement goes 100% against the experience of long-term magnifica keepers on this board. Care to share the source of your observation?

And [welcome]
