I keep a 125 sps dom mixed reef several years old. Ive recently noticed my lps and softies looking shriveled and out of their usually fluffy character so I started testing more frequently and checking all my dosers and timers, lights etc. everything was testing normal all equipment working fine. A week ago I notice my clams mouth is GAPING open and a day later one of my fav acro colonies is rtning. Now at this point my zoas wont open, none of the polyps on my acros will come out, the tank is in overall dissaray. So I test and again, everything is spot on. I decided after another day of things getting worse I would replace all my ragents for my test kits and try again. Low and behold my CA test must have been bad for god knows how long because my ca has dropped to 165ppm!!! How bad is this? Everything else still tested ok so my question is this; Can a Ca level this low negatively impact the corals the way in which I have described to you. Lastly how slowly would you bring it back up? I was thinking over a 10 day period. Thanks for reading guys and girls -Greg

If your calcium has dropped that low then your alk and mag have to be thrown out of whack as well.

What is your exact paramaters now that you have new reagents?

Water changes - small and steady. When it gets close to normal, then fine tune with some Calcium Chloride and Baking Soda.

Ive been working crazy hours sorry im just getting back. My alk is 8, my mg is a hair lower than I like at 1300, my po4 is .04, my no3 is 0 or undetectable, temp is 79.2, and sg is 1.026.

It's all good just start putting 200ml-400ml/day extra calcium additive till it gets back to regular and watch salinity it will rise once you add a couple of litters of it. Find a calcium calculater online. I would inspect your doesing pump or what ever method you use for maintaining levels. I had my tank go to 130 ppm and 15dkh when my calcium doser stopped I lost half of a monti cap colony and it took 2 weeks till I was able properly fix it due to my situation of being away when it happened.
