Here is some pics of my New BTA from 2 days ago, I've had it a week. Looks good and doing well, moved around a little bit but settled where its at. (read more after the pics)

Last night I had a 10K bulb go out on the canopy of my 29G biocube so I change it to a 50/50 which is all I had. I have more on order but there is a 50/50 and an Actinic running so thats why the color looks different than the first pics.
Today I came home and the Anemone was on the other side of the tank sort of wedged into a small cave.....I got him out and put him back where he originally was and this is what he looks like. WHAT's UP with him? My LTA in my other tank will shrink once a week or so but doesn't look like this...all the "shredding" look???
Is it on its way out?
Would the lighting change cause this?

This is two days difference!!

Hmm. Well, I don't know if this has to do with anything, but isn't a 1 month and a half old tank too young to put an anemone in it?

Remove it as soon as possible, it is dissolving those white curly things are it's gutts, do a large change. If you are in doubt you can do the smell test. I use a large clean gallon plastic bag, grab it and if is smells fowl, it's over. Prepare for on nasty stench, very unpleasent. I have lost a couple this way but my roses I have had for 2 years now.
So sorry for your loss.

I put my LTA in my 24g two weeks after it was running and it has been doing fine.,..actually has been doing Excellent. Especially after I introduce the clown. Not sure if this is the "norm" but it worked for me in that tank. I do have upgraded lighting on the 24g?! I am upgrading this lighting as soon as the kit gets here Friday.

GREAT!!!! Thats what I figured..... Should I put it in the QT tank incase it comes out of it or just toss it in the neighbors mailbox?

So I guess thats why my water looks a little hazey...?:(

When I said a large change, meant "water change" you will probibly get an amonia spike.

Yes, I did not read that carefully, was drawn to the pictures. Anemones need a mature tank, at least 6 months old and very stable. Don't get discouraged, you made a mistake, just make sure you do your homework for all future purchases. It's a shame that poor guy had to die. Have you visited this site, very helpful info for those who are anemone newbies.

Neighbors mailbox um....I guess if you really hate him then go for it. otherwise flush it. Check your amonia and you may need to do more than one water change, just keep an eye on things for the next couple days, you don't want to loose anything else.

Sorry, your not a newbie, I should keep my mouth shut, but karensroseanemones, has some good information about bta's and lots of pictures.

Well, I' a newbie to Anemones... I got the one for my 24g and it did great so I thought, Hey, I'll get one for my 29g!
Maybe I should stick to LTA's.....:sad1:

QUESTION:
Whats with the 6 month time frame? (Not trying to start anything here)
I used live rock and water from my 125g tank, and I bought 40lbs. of live sand in a bag. I also bought a bottle of Copepods to seed the tank. I would think it could support anything with moderation?? Especially after 1 1/2 months.....

That is the amount of time it takes for a tank to mature and become stable. Some tanks mature faster, than others. Some reefers say to wait a year. I wouldn't give up on bta's. Wait a few months (or 6) and try again. I lost the first 2 green bta's I had. For a while I thought I was cursed but I have had better luck with roses, mine even split after a year. : )

I suppose if you have a quarantine tank, it couldn't hurt to put the anemone in there and see if it might recover. I'm assuming the quarantine tank doesn't have any ammonia. I would suspect ammonia or some type of toxin came in contact with the anemone. BTAs can be amazingly resilient, but this one might be a goner.

Maybe you damaged it when you took it out of the cave. When it went into a cave you should have left it in there. This is a normal thing for a bta to do. They will crawl themselfs into a hole and hide for a little while to acclimate itself to the lights you have. I agree with what everyone else says ..its a goner. I hope you plan on moving the lta to a bigger tank some day it will out grow that tank you have it in. Also a tank that size can't support the bio load of a lta once its fully grown.

Many articles, experts and reef keepers will tell you that some tanks take up to 6 months to TRULY mature and cycle properly. In only a month and a half, it is doubtful that your tank has all the necessary factors in place to truly support a BTA or anemone of any sort. Sure, there are people who get lucky from time to time, but as an example, I waited 6 months before I put my BTA in (surviving and growing at an enormous rate btw).

Please reload, wait a significant amount of time and put in a BTA only when your reef has become automatic (you know, when the passion has left you and you barely feel like changing the water; if the tank is still ok then you know it's ok to try again).

It looked exactly the same when I coaxed it out of the cave.... I used my hand to wave the water back n fourth and out it came.
My LTA will be switched to my 125g tank once it outgrows the nano...It's doubled in size since I bought it.:eek2:

Oh ok, you didn't explain how you took it out of the cave so I thought you pulled it off the rock. A few newbies for nems don't realise pulling it off the rock will damage it.
Good to know you are going to move your lta to your 125g. There is also people that don't realise that LTAs can get huge, not as big as carpet anemones but pretty large. They can reach to almost 2 feet in diameter, that is also counting the length of its tentacles. My purple lta is almost 15 inches right now.
