Okay guys here is the situation. Short and sweet to the point. House got flooded while we were gone sunday because the drain pipe on the washer popped off and ran for 3 hours while we were gone.

Next day sever pro came out so i have heaters and fans runnign int he house and its 100 degrees AC IS off and tank is at 90 degrees. It has been that way for at least 18 hours now. I knwo some people on here have chillers is ther anyway i can meet and borrow for the next 2 days. Or is there even a poin in doing that is everything as good as dead. I am trying to keep dry ice in my sump in bags but i can be there constantly because i am at work.

Anyone some one please help.

I will be checking this forum to see if anyone can meet me or bring me a chiller i am off of sidco drive nashville if thgat helps.

wish I did, I'd be able to help you out. Have you thought about getting one of those portable ac units from lowes that just sit on the floor and plug into the wall?

What I always heard to do and it seemed like a good idea was to take some of those frozen icepacks and just let them float in the water if you have a sump this might be a quick option

I would let you borrow mine, but it is leaking freon at the moment. that said, corals at that temp for that extended period of time dont chance much of a snowballs chance in....

I feel for you bro. that sucks. best you can do is lots of ice at this time and hope that some make it, but be prepared for a massive die off.

If my big tank were up, I'd offer temporary housing, but alas, it's still upstairs sitting empty, waiting on a few good men to haul it downstairs....

If Servpro Kills your tank because of their actions, I would put a claim against them! They are supposed to take all things into consideration when they clean up these kind of spills. I would take this up with them and your Insurance Co right away, It's no different than them killing your dog or cat. You must have gotten someone that did not have much experiance. I would raise all kinds of hell with them!

Best thing to do while you wait is to get bags of ice and float them to bring the temp down. Many of my corals died at the swap, because my heater got stuck on and got above 90º for about 8 hours. SPS seem to die quicker than the Softies, so you may get lucky there. I think Norman was selling a chiller, might want to ask him if he still has it.

Can you buy a cheap A/C and pop it in a window?

Can you move the inhabitants to a smaller tank, in a cooler location?

Not sure how effective it would be, but I'd be tempted to make ice cubes with tank water, using anything plastic in the house, like small tupperware containers. Just don't make any so big that they might hit a tank wall and crack it.

If you do find a chiller bring the temp down kinda slowly as to not shock them even more. The Damage is most likely already done and you don't want to make it worse If you can avoid it. Zach also has a Chiller but It's on his tank all plumbed in so that may not be possible. Floating bags of Ice in your Sump and turning off any heat sources in the tank itself, Like lights extra pumps that are not needed and add fans blowing across the water surface.
Personally I would turn my AC back on to a reasonable Temp while drying the floors, As i have flooded mine a few times and never turned my AC off. My hardwood all dried out and settled back down to normal after a few day's of running fans. JMO

Ice ice ice baby, ice ice baby,
Have to agree with everyone just bag up what's still alive and bring them to me. I'll hold them for you Justin. With 24hrs at 90 hat to brake it to you but most won't make it and for the bacteria I'm not sure bill can you jump in.

Man justin Im so sorry about all that mess. Whenever you get back on your feet Im sure we can all give you some frags to start over if you have a massive die off.

Once the temp gets back to a normal range, Most likely you will see a Mini Cycle as there has to be some Bacteria that will perish due to the heat. I think the tank Itself will tell you that by just the smell (If it's real bad you may need to rinse everything and start over with fresh salt water and let it cycle. This is just an opinion and there is just too much guessing as to the condition of the tank without being there to see for myself. If you do need to do this it should bounce back without to much trouble, But all dead matter that you can remove will help to restart the system again and shorten the cycle time. If you quickly remove any dead items you may save yourself a lot of trouble in restarting the tank.

I agree with Bill. if you are seenig any dying tissue, get it out asap. even if it si on the border, you wil have a tough time saving it. go ahead. cry.. we all have at one point. I would offer to stash them for you in an empty tank, but it is just now running and im a good 2 hours from you anyways.

at some point here soon you need to do what is best in the long run, and that would be salvaging the bacteria in the rock and sand.

Thanks guys I am going home in a few minutes to see what has happened hope fully i can salvage some of this. I have been putting ice bags in there but without being able to stay there and babysit I cannot do it all the time. Yes I do feel like crying. Just got it stabilized from the move and now this. This has been a very rough month going to be hard to see it like this.

Man, I hate to hear this. I wish I had something that could help you out, but I can not say anything more than what has been said.

I hope it all works out.

I think everything is going to be okay. I went home on my break and the temp was okay turned the lights on for a minute and everything had polyps out and looked okay. I will be home in another 2 hours so I hope everything will be okay we shall see.

Well that sounds promising, Hope it all comes back and no long term harm. I have heard of this on the reef and things still live!

Awesome. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Keep us in the loop.

Yeah what he has told I think everything will be ok if I'm going to stop by and help him out seeing that my frag tank empty now I can hold them.

WOW! if that is the case you are very lucky... Best of luck on them... all the more reason now for me to find a way to fix my chiller.
