makeshift acclimation box-thoughts?

Using a large critter carrier turned sideways with the lid towards the flow, and magfloat magnets to keep in place.

Introducing new wrasses with an Exquisite Wrasse.

What do you think?

nice, would like to know how it works out. I habe been considering using one for an acclimation box myself. but not exactly like that, your way looks much easier

How long do you typically keep the fish in the acclimation box?
I have heard mixed responses- from an hour to a couple of days.

Also is it a problem having the box completely vented - top of the critter carrier (which faces the water flow coming into it) without holes on the other side? I can definitely see there is flow through the box as the fish are swimming in it.

When I am adding a fish that I think might have problems due to aggression, I use the acclimation box for 3-5 days and monitor if anyone is trying to get to the new addition. If all is fine, I release the new fish after lights go out and I keep the lights off for the next day as well.

With wrasse inside the same complex I have gone up to almost 2 weeks. I would put some pvc fittings in there for your solarensis to hide in to prevent undue stress.

I'm relatively new to the whole acclimation box thing, though I have used critter carriers in the past to good effect. I think you want to have good flow through the box, though not so much that the poor fish gets pinned to one end (did this!). I have found a day or two to be sufficient as more often than not I find the occupant is completely ignored by the resident fish population. I imagine if you see substantial aggression a week or two might be necessary.

I used "the box" for a day and the exquisite was swimming by curious but seemed to have adjusted relatively quickly (hoping). I added a flasher a couple months back and there was some minor aggression for less than a day, so I'm hoping that is no different.

I had a lubbocks and solarensus in the box together hoping that they would also adjust together and they had no issues at all. After I released them, the lubbocks is out and about ( just a little chasing by the harlequin tusk - normally a model citizen, what's up with that??) and the solarensus found a place to hide and adjust to his new tank mates.

All in all, the critter carrier turned sideways so that the vents are facing the flow seems to have worked well.

You need better circulation. Works better if you melt or drill holes all the way around the critter carrier. Leave the door on top for feeding. I used a soldering iron to melt nice clean holes. Drilling holes leaves jagged edges.
