Making RO/DI Water

how long can you store RO/DI water in brute trash cans?

I am in the process of setting up my 56 gallon tank and I actually made 80 gallons of RO/DI water about 2 months ago. The pure water has been in the trash cans for 2 months, only stirred it once in that time. Not quite ready for transition to main tank just yet.

is it ok to keep RO/DI water in the cans that long, or do I need to make a whole new batch because it sat so long before starting my tank?

Just make a new batch to be sure. You can test the water in there and make sure its up to par but why go through that. Just make some new water and you should be set to go.

well if i need to make new water to be sure because my current RO/DI water has been sitting for about 2 months, then how in the world are you supposed to store your water for water changes if it doesnt stay good enough to trust once you fill your tank for the first time?

Add a float system to auto fill your bucket i think is best to keep what you need and keep fresh.

well you'd be using it for top off and water changes so there would be some turnover rate less than 2 months

If you are suggesting a float directly connected to the ro/di and leaving it on all the time I would highly suggest against it. I would be afraid of a flood due to failure and if that container is used for auto top off then the DI would be exhausted very quickly.

I am new to the hobby. I have not even filled my tank for the first time. I have 80 gallons of RO/DI water in brute trash cans waiting to fill my tank. It has been in the cans for about 2 months. I made it early.

Fish store tells me to dump it and make new batch before i fill my tank...others tell me to use the water i have? that is my question.
