Making the best of it...34g LED Solana sps

I lost both of my clowns in one day and have a weird growth coming from the rocks. It's a clear string type of algae maybe. Tested all parameters ammonia: 0 (API)
Nitrites: 0 (API)
Nitrates: undetectable (API)
Phosphates: undetectable (API)
I've been lights out for 5 days doesn't seem to effect it and also have done 3 five gallon water changes. It blows off the rock easily and I siphon it out but it returns shortly.

Any ideas? The only thing that changed before was the one piece of live rock and my ato bin. The ato is a dog food bulk container which I have seen used and was cleaned with vinegar and ro water prior to using it.

Wow, that is super strange man. Sorry to hear. I can't even think about where to begin to identify what happened. Everything in the norm with the equipment? Water clear or cloudy? Where's the rock from?

Sorry for your loss. Maybe came from something with the sand? Did you rinse it well? His op says his rock came from his 150g and I wouldn't think it would just so happen to be releasing anything now. You don't have anything gunk in up in the back do you? Just trying to think of some things. 3 head are better then one!

The tank has been up for almost 3 months. Sand was rinsed and everything is running fine. All parameters are in check. I'm not dosing anything, just feeding the fish. All my food is rinsed and frozen in rodi water. I know it's still early and my tank is young and algae blooms will happen but I've never had one kill fish nor seen this kind of algae before. My clean up crew is doing fine.

An algae bloom killing a fish is not normal. Maybe it's bacterial? Setup for 3 months, it should be somewhat stable. I also don't see why the ato bin would make a difference especially of cleaned like you did. Something had a reaction, we just need to figure out what caused it. Maybe a temp swing? I'm having trouble figuring this one out :(

Me too and I'm nervous to add livestock without knowing what happened. My temp is controlled by a rkl and a jaeger heater. Temp stays at 77.5 and when checked throughout the day swings less then .5 degrees. I'm at a loss on this one. I can't find any pictures that match what I am seeing coming from the rocks. I heard if a fish eats dino that it will kill them but what I have isn't catching air bubbles like dino and is clear not brownish like dino.

It looks blue because of the time the pics were taken during the light cycle and because they were taken on my iPhone which never captures the color right. My cycle has been finished for almost 2 months.

No updates I'm still waiting for my skimmer to come in. Should be this Friday. Nitrates climbed a little after the deaths but nothing crazy. Everything has been stable after the water changes. I'm not adding anything until the skimmer arrives. I've been lights out since and it has had a little affect on the growth on the rocks but not a whole lot.

Following along for the ride! Cant wait to see it crammed with coral.

Me also! Especially how your specimens do under the led:)

I think it's good your waiting, give your tank some time. I would assume the skimmer will help you. I'll be looking forward to it

Im hoping my skimmer comes in today! I built a canopy for the tank nothing to fancy just functional, hide the skimmer, hold the vega, keep 2 year old from getting anything in the tank.

Thats all for now, hopefully i will be updating tonight with a running reef octopus.

Canopy looks nice, I like simple. I noticed your bh90 has the aqua trance 1000, my skimmer has the 1000s. And as far as I can tell it's doing a damn good job. And is extremely silent! I figured you'd want some feedback and although I don't have th e exact same skimmer we have almost the same pump. I hope yours does a good job also!

Well they sent my lfs the wrong skimmer. They got the bh-1000 instead and it won't work with my tank. I got a refund for the original skimmer and have already ordered the bh-90 from marine depot.
