Hi and great article. I do have one question, though. I was perusing through the article and noticed that most of the other Malacanthinae (other than M. plumieri) reproductive habits have not been well documented. I had read previously that they were external dioecious spawners. In my search, I went to FishBase for some further details, where they, too listed Hoplolatilus and other Malacanthus sp. as dioecious. I know from experience that FishBase can be incorrect, but they provided a source for their statement:
Whiteman, E.A. and I.M. Côté, 2004. Monogamy in marine fishes.. Biol. Rev. 79:351-375.
I do not have the resources at the moment to search this source and determine whether or not this was a fact or merely an assumption. You are probably aware of this work, anyway, but I was just curious to see what's going on at FishBase. I suspect they made an incorrect assumption, especially if you haven't found any reasonable sources to suggest differently (i.e. undocumented).
Thanks in advance,
andrew
