managing PH in hypo

I am getting an achilles tang and just want to be prepared to treat with hypo if/when it gets ich. I have utulised hypo several times sucessfully but never really concerned myself with PH but i know that achilles are quite sensative to PH drops.

When i lower the salinity what should i do to keep the PH up as fresh water is going to lower it significantly.

Thanks
Ryan

Buffering the water reduces the likelihood of a ph drop, I believe. I buffer mine to 8.3 alkalinity, and my ph probe gathers dust because the ph just does not change much. If you will get alk-calcium-magnesium in a stable 'lock' as per the params in my sig, I'm pretty sure it will tend to stay steady. A really high-end salt mix has high mg and calcium, so it would tend to hold steadier under insult than a cheaper blend, I'm thinking---but you might want to go to the Chemistry Forum and pose those questions again for a chemist.
