mandarin dragonet

i have had 1 for about 6 months and he is doing great. i dont have a refugium but i have about 125 lbs of live rock. just make sure you have a lot of live rock and try to feed cycops-eeze. they seem to like to munch on that.

feeding cyclopeze is not going to keep a mandarin longterm they need pods to stay healthy and they eat and hunt them all day..how long have you had your tank? what other fish do you have in there

I have had my tank up nine months and I have tree clownfish and a feather duster and clean up crew also live rock and

i have 2 mandarins (Barney and Betty) in my 40gal just after 6months of setting up the tank. Though I got my mandarins to eat frozen. That was almost 2 years ago.

I have another spotted mandarin in a 10 gal also eating frozen. That was 3 years ago.

I got the technique from my LFS whose had their mandarin for 5 years + on frozen too with no LR. FWIW.

It does take patience and good amount of time (1+ hour each time) to train them to eat frozen at the beginning, but once they do start eating, it's like feeding any other fish.....though i use a large syringe and squirt the food to the bottom of the tank where they're hanging out.
