Mandarin Dragonettes

Bangaii cardinals have also dropped significantly in price too (anyone have the numbers, think it cut 60-70%). Now they are extremely difficult to collect also, in some areas there are only 1-2 pairs per 100 square yards. Rareity doesn't necessarily mean an increase in price, which seems counterintuitive, but it does make sense: people are only willing to pay x amount for the fish, and demand isn't enough to drive price higher. The reason they are so overharvested is that only 25-50% make it into shops, meaning that hundreds of thousands die on the way. I would guess the mandarin faces similar problems, but thats all just analysis, so if i'm wrong PLEASE CORRECT ME.

Bangaii droppped in price for other reasons, mainly because when the first hit the market they where the "hottest" thing around and the price was highly inflated, like Acans/Micros/etc. Dragonettes fair far better in the COC then just about any cardinal, very few DOA/DAA IME.

Mandarins larval stage is very hard to feed. It's all good to speculate on this thread as what they might eat, but do be aware there are in dpeth talks about this elsewhere so no need to spin your wheels, check out http://www.marinebreeder.org/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=0a892375abf2538452cba17c95d510f3 (MOFIB - www.marinebreeder.org - similiar to Project DIBS)

Great site GreshamH !

MOFID looks like the mother lode of breeding info. I hope more of us reefers take up the challange of discovering how to breed our many favorite fish, corals and critters. Then we will have a sustainable hobby.
