Mandarin Goby Questions

Ahhh and there it is I need to disprove something that you state as fact yet cannot prove statement.

This forum has nothing but degraded over the last 15+ years. Everyone is an expert and if one person says they did it that means everyone can do it. Yet no one really knows exactly how that one person did it because it takes more information than tank size and lighting type.

And if you really want to know I have owned an LFS and have propogated corals for YEARS although I am currently doing neither now. And my partner in the coral propogation company is actually a marine biologist and the curator of one of the largest aquariums in the country.

But sure any kid that signed up a few years ago and has thousands of posts must know more than I do.

BTW If anyone wants to be a responsible hobbyist ask yourself this, for every person that has been successful how many do you think have failed and how many do you think will admit it. Like a person is going to come on a forum and say that bought a fish they had no business buying and killed it. But one person says how they did something which all we have is that person's word and now it is the Gospel.

I'm done I will go back to doing big boy things......lol

He was in the middle of the tank with the moonlights still on. This was at 6:30 am Central time when I found him chilling in the middle. My lights don't turn on until 12:30.

Tank parameters
PH -8.2
Nit- 0
Nat- 0
Phos- 0.01
Cal - 480
Mag-1300
Alk- 10
Amm - 0
Salinity - 1.025
Temp 79.8

My parameters never really change. I do 15% w/c every week and 25% every other week.

you know your tanks parameters but do you know the parameters of the LFS's tank you got the mandy from? you may not have acclimated it well enough and the difference between tanks could have shocked it.

Hi LED Jack. I admit it! I have bought stuff without research. Ive killed innocent fish. I'm a super-novice and I know nothing. I want all the opinions from anyone willing to spend time to share...including yours and I dont like it when people try to shut someone up because they dont agree.

Everyone ..please try to remember you should not try to discredit an individual for having a different opinion from mainstream/common thinking...Remember that it is those who think outside the box and question common knowledge who create improvements and invent solutions. Thats why you now have a choice to take Uber instead of a taxi.

If we can assume a person has the mandarin and whether it was a good idea or not...he has the mandarin so s/he needs info on what he can do to improve chances for success...that would really helpful for many now and in the future.

I just upgraded to a 75...now you're making me want to get a girl for my boy :)

OP, hope your mandy is well!

As a newer member with almost two decades of experience, one of those decades being professionally involved in the hobby I get it, the whole
" you have only been a member for a few months and have only 50 posts, so your opinion is invalid" Its unfortunate some people view your post count or length of membership as your credibility. That being said, what rubbed me the wrong way is your attitude. Like I said friendly debate is always welcomed and encouraged on this forum, however you came off as very rude and brash.

Also would friendly disagree with you on your take that pods in a fuge' don't mirgrate to the display. The life cycle of copepods, amphipods, psuedopods etc etc all have a free swimming stage where they spend their time developing in the water column. While yes, plankton sheer caused by pumps is a thing to consider I would wager that the % that make it through the impellers is larger than the % destroyed by them.

Bottom line, you are wrong, having a refugium with actively reproducing "pods" will most certainly positively contribute to populations found in the display, thus will contribute to keeping a dragonet/ exclusive pod eater fat and healthy.

Again, LED jack, get off your high horse and lose the attitude.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch,

OP- how the mandarin doing? has it become more active yet? Hope all is well.

I'd like to hear an update too, but OP hasn't been online since the thread derailed.
I hope you dinguses are happy. You're still sniping at each other like little brats after OP's given up on getting any help and two different mods have told you to shut up. Nice.

Unreal...can't even follow simple instructions to shut up. What a helpful bunch. Hopefully OP can come back with an update, if the monkeys are done flinging their poop at each other.

hey, I shut up a while ago, just needed to make my point. Hope the Mandy is alright... OP come back!! apologies if I went too far but someone had to put him in his place. And it appears that multiple people have.

Mandarins are so awesome, wish I could keep one but I worry that I might have to treat with interceptor in the future if any bugs get through my dipping regime.

OPs case is kinda strange, Mandarins should pretty much always been cruising around to fill their bellies.
Maybe OP's is stressed/shock from transport? I hope he starts hunting soon.

I've read that roe and/or newly hatched brine shrimp are good at prompting lethargic fish to eat (when they're not too far gone).

If ether of those are doable in the near future, maybe getting a few bites into that Mandarin will prompt more feeding behavior.
