Mandarin Goby

Lots of people have, but for a mandarin to really do well it needs pods. They like to hunt all day, that's what they do.

If your tank has been up and running for atleast a year, you have a refugium, and you don't have any other strictly pod eating fish, a mandarin should be fine

Mine only ate pods at first. He now likes the really small spectrum pellets. He still hunts pods, but he hunts the tiny pellets as they bounce on my sand too.

If you are planning on having a mandarin goby then you need to be prepared to feed it at least twice a day and you can't skip meals. When feeding you also have to give the fish special attention due to the fact that they are pretty slow deliberate swimmers. When you buy the fish try and get an aquacultured one or one that already eats prepared foods. I did it and it is very rewarding as they are gorgeous fish.

They need to be fed more than twice a day in order to a healthy mandy...they eat all day in the wild, like birds...

These folks are right. Mine eats mysis, and even small pellets sometimes. I feed every morning, and twice after work before bed. Even still, I add pods to the tank.

For proof, I added what was advertised as 2,000 pods from R2G 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I had to break down the tank that the mandarin was in to remove another problem fish, and saw absolutely zero pods in the LR or swimming around with a complete tank breakdown. I'm sure some were hiding in the rocks where I couldn't see, but my mandarin went through just about that entire pod population in about 2 weeks. They literally constantly eat when they are not sleeping...

I was simply giving twice a day as a base line feeding regiment. If a person isn't willing to do this for the mandarin when they are planning on weaning it onto prepared foods then they probably shouldn't be looking at this fish

cool, I would say 5-7 times as an absolute minimum...

a few hours after your lights go off get a red light and go pod counting...you will probably see many crawling all over your rocks...I do this kind of "pod counting/assessing" quite often just to make sure things are copasetic in my tanks...
